Tranny #2......RIP
Just dropped off my 2003 TLS for tranny number three!
6849 miles and my car is going under the knife yet again.
Makes me wonder why I traded my 99.

If it happens again you qualify for the lemon law in most states.

its that time of the year again and its the 03's turn...haha...could you just imagine if like air planes used the infamous acura trannies....in their engine somehow...we be seeing planes drop from the sky annually..hahha....

Man, and there are people here trying to say it happens to less than 2% of the cars. Or it happens to only modified cars. Bla Blah Blah. Don't know why they stick up blindly for Honda's/Acura's huge flaw! I went through 2 also on my 02. Acura sales are down also, 13% I think. They would be in trouble if not for the MDX.

BTW, sorry about your tranny problems. You should apply the lemon law if the 3rd tranny bites the dust.

Scott P., thought you said you were banned from the board? You sure have some colorful stories from the visor shipment, check clearing wait all the way to getting banned and popped back in eh?
Anyways, bust your #3 tranny and claim the lemon law. By then the 2004 TLS should be out...totally redesigned engine/body..hopefully you don't have to worry about this problem anymore...

It may be time to remove the K&N filter. I think that mod put my otherwise stock engine over the top.

No problems yet at 34K miles!
I have a 2002 TL-S with Comptech Headers and Sways. No problems at all. I'm over 34K miles and all of it hard-driving with most of it using SS.
Just another data point...

I have an '03 just shy of 6K and I'm getting weird "slow-shifts" where it just seems to take the trans an unusually long time to make the gear change, usually from 3-4, sometimes 4-5. I don't know if that's what other people refer to as "slipping", to me slipping means the trans won't hold the gear. It doesn't feel right to me, though; my previous ride was my beloved 89 Prelude Si and it never felt like this. That trans had SportShift, too lol, had that 4th-3rd force down-shift button. Came in handy a couple of times.
Anyway, I'm waiting for it to dump so I can join the ****parade at the local Acura dealer (Motto: "Man, yours is the FIRST bad trans we've ever seen! Really!) but I'm wondering if there is ANYBODY who has gotten a replaced trans that DIDN'T subsequently fail also within 20k miles? All I see on here is repeat failures, usually within a few thousand miles. It's like Acura is just passing around the same bad transmissions like rubber checks. Since the problem is "solved" how can there be people with repeat failures?

I was also told by the dealer that the transmission problem was solved by acura and that it was a bearing problem and that the first 5200 cars made in the '03 model year have the same problem as the 2002s. I'm not sure I believe that but I figured I'd share.

Well I would be buying from a private party or at an auction. However, I believe you can get warranty info from any dealer on any car (if they don't lie) or maybe directly from the manufacturer. I know that I checked up on warranty repairs on my Volvo S70 T5 before I bought it but don't remember how.

Check with the by-laws of your state.
