Post Trade my TL in? Any thoughts?

Well, I'm bored of my TL already. I often wish I'd have bought a Bimmer.

My thought is that the TL, while a great buy, is a compromise car: 1/2 sport, 1/2 luxury. What's wrong with that? Nothing, really, but I miss having a sport car like my old RX-7.

Also, I got the car for a previous job which necessitated me getting a 4-door. Now I can drive whatever I want, so I think I'll examine trading in for a $25-30K car that's a little more sporty, but not too troublesome (no turbo RX-7, for example).

I'm thinking a '97 or '98 Bimmer - possibly M3, Z3 2.8 or maybe just a loaded 328i. I will also go drive the IS300 again.

Comments / suggestions?

Nohhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!

A compromise car?? WTF! There is no compromise!! You disgust me... get out!! j/k.

Well, I got my TL because my job (sorta) required me to have a 4 door sedan also. But I would trade in my TL for the M3 in a heart-beat if I had that kinda money!!

If I were to get a smaller car, I'd probably consider only two doors in manual tranny. Why don't you go for 330 ci. I've always liked the 3 series coupe. IS300 isn't bad either but it's a 4 door and on top of that it only comes in automatic. Wouldn't you want something in stick??

Definitely a stick if I'm moving to a sportier car. 330ci is great, sure, but costs more than I want to spend. I'm looking to not spend more than $5K over the trade-in value of my '01 TL which already has 16K miles.

I also really miss my old convertible, so another ragtop would be cool.

I'm assuming it's worth maybe 23,000 or so as a trade-in...?

I testdrove the is300...I think it was pretty nice. It really didnt have the power I expected out of it though. I'm sure when you get stick, the car will fit what youre lookin for

If you can get over its boyracer interior/exterior touches, then the IS300 is a pretty good car. It would be available with a stick over the next couple of months or so.....of course you will not get anywhere near the space of the TL in it.

Before you bail on your TL, try upgrading the suspension with Comptech springs and sways. They make the car feel like a completely different machine. If you've already done that and are still bored, then I would go with the used M3 coupe.

S2000? Wait on all the new cars coming out for 2002? TL-S manual? Still not a sports car, but closer. If it happens anyway.

If you don't mind a 4 year old car, ge the 540i Sport. You should be able to pick one up for around $30K or maybe really low 30's. Granted it will have lots of miles, but you get luxury and sports combined. And it will beat the hell out of a lot of cars out there

Thumbs up

I've been thinking the same thoughts. I might look at a BMW 330ci. I really like the way the new bimmers look. Plenty of power, sporty and has a nice touch of class.

BMWs are expensive to repair and I am not too confident about its long term reliablity as much as my TL. BMW is having special 330i sedan lease for 5.04% rate, about $550/month 0 down for 36 months/15k miles.
auto/PP/1 cd/heated seat. BMW covers the services for 36 months so during your lease you don't have to pay for any scheduled maintenance. They also don't change oil until the light comes on, which could be 7,500 to 10,000 miles... I guess that saves a few trips to the dealer.

I will go with the BMW M3, if you can live with it! (it will give you $hit load of trouble just like the RX-7) if you are not lucky enough...

But I will say that RWD & stick is a must. For me at least. I think a used M3 is perfect, if you need more room, go with the 540.

You can forget about the IS300, because even with the manual tranny, it's still underpowered. Or you can try to find a used audi S4...

just stick with the tl,
i think the more you think of trading cars in you'll be like oh i dont like it anymore
and again, and again
you'll get attached to your car just stick with it otherwise you wont find any satisfaction in any of the cars you purchased you'll just wind up trading in all your cars!

"Well, I'm bored of my TL already. I often wish I'd have bought a Bimmer."

every car has its ups and downs......

"but I miss having a sport car like my old RX-7."

trust me you'll be missing the tl for its certain things too!

I agree with the above post....I had traded in perfectly fine cars, during my younger days and had regretted the decision soundly later, especially since the traded cars were perfect in every way and met most of my needs.....basically go ahead and trade it in, if you got a lot of money to burn...

Cool

Searching for a new car always seems to have a sense of the ineluctable about it. There's always something else on the horizon. Hold on to your Acura a bit longer! There's always next year's editions to tempt you!!!
