At the track Wednesday night and the car finally went intu the 13's

The weather very cooperative at 48 degrees(I'm not sure about humidity, but I'm sure it must of been on the dry side). The track conditions were also good. My car has a trailer hitch on and I had almost a 1/2 tank of gas. I was running 32lb of air on front and 40 on the rear. I was only able to do 3 passes but here are the results:
1) 14.139 @ 101.54 with 2.305 60ft against a WRX he went 14.211@ 93.77, 1.964 60ft
2) 13.950 @ 102.11 with 2.232 60ft no competition it was a truck at 19.452
3) 13.995 @ 102.00 with 2.257 60ft against a SRT-4 he went 14.190 @ 97.99, 2.312 60ft

This car has some awsome top end compared to the WRX and the SRT-4. It's great to know that you can race in luxery!!

thats pretty good congrats!

have u thought about the CL-S high boost pulley? also, arent the tires running a little high in pressure? try running thme a little lower, like the fronts at 28 and the rears at around 36.

Wow, quick ride. So you pulled on a WRX?

BTW, looking at your sig, your screen name should be "Dr. Comptech."

Holy shi+! Man, you are running some seriously nice times and very good top end mph for having a totally shi++y 60' time!

Your traction must be horrendous! Are your tires pretty worn? You running 17's or 18's? I think you can easily shave .2 seconds off just working on the traction/60' issues alone!

Serious congratulations go your way!

I'll be down to run some with you in January for sure!

why would you want the rears lower? you would want them as high as possible to eliminate as much rolling resistance as possible.

nice runs by the way! good to see some #'s like that out of a tl!

nice times. Those 60fts are really that bad though. some drag radials should net you a few ticks though and maybe a slighty better 60 ft. The e-manage piggyback and intercooler that scalbert is working on should help you some as well. Plus you shouldn't have any issues with the stronger tranny. why not add a 50 shot too?

I hear that vandy but I was suggesting it because be has a strong tranny (taht being our concern when adding power) and with the other mods coming out for the CLS/TLS he has a good shot at hitting low thirteens!

Question: is the Comptech blower the same thing as Comptech Supercharger? Just wanted to be 100% sure.

By the way, I want your mods. Every last one of them.

That's what he has, the Comptech High Boost Pulley.

My tires are a bit worn, so that may account for the not so good 60ft. I usually don't mess with tire pressures as I haven't seen too much difference in doing that (I've tried 25 and 28-29). I keep my rears high just so I can wear out the center tread, they camber too much unfortunatly. I'm going to pick up a set of used Pilot Sports in a 245/40-17 size and put them on the fronts just to see if they will fit and work at the track.

I was not able to put in the Mugan thermostat. The shop tried both sizes but neither one worked - one was too big and the other was too small. I did get the fan switch and cap though and now I also added the Water Wetter from Redline. This might help keep the car running cooler - thus more power.

My B-pipe was shipped out from Comptech last friday so I should have it in a couple of weeks--Just call me "Dr Comptech".

Finally, Velocity Resources is working on a intercooler with more boost, maybe in the neighborhood of 8-8.5 lbs. This could possibly net us a 380-425 hp TL.

I will be going to the track frequently and keep you guys updated as to what the results are. I will also be doing a final dyno when all this is complete.

I must admit our cars are not cheap to modify but they are a lot of fun.
Thanks for the input. SC-SS

I don't think you're gonna notice much advantage unless you lower your pressures to the sub-20 levels. What's your launch technique? I drove my friend's TL-S and traction is absolutely pathetic- it let those front tires squeal.

You might try to move your seat as far forward as possible, and take out the back seat, also any loose junk you have in the back. Toss the spare.

You need to use the stock gasket, on the new stat, or it won't fit. Take it back and have them do it right or your fans will run all the time, since they changed the switch, and it won't run any cooler,.... seriously!

You will need larger injectors and a way to control them. 380-425 at the wheels might be a little optimistic for the auto. I was hoping for around 350 whp.

njtls,
The stock tranny did well, but these last 3 runs were done with the upgraded tranny which was installed about 2 weeks ago. It has LSD (among other improvements) which is a big help.

I had the stock tranny for almost 28k with no problems. 6k off those miles were with the supercharger and 8-10 times at the track and very aggressive driving all around. I had it swapped with a CL-S tranny that was built for the track. my stock tranny is still going strong in the CLS. So there is hope after all.

Acura5.7RL
I've noticed that with any thing above 1000-1500Rpm there is too much tire spin of the start. I did not notice the difference with 25-28 lbs but I did see the mph go down. Do you run them at 20 or less when you go to the track. Will that hurt the mph even more? I know that my launch technique could improve though.
I usually just race it the way I drive it(seats, spare, tire press..etc.). Is your RL a v8(5.7)??

ModAddict
Thanks for the info on the gasket. I'm with you in terms of hp. I was listing crank hp so 330-365 at the wheels would be phenomenal. Right now I'm at 265-270 whp.
Its possible that I may able to run the stock injectors-at least I'm hoping to. When I had the car dynoed the air/fuel mapping indicated that it was running very rich, it was so rich that it even dipped a little off the chart at around 5k rpm. So with it being rich a natural fix would be more air which would be the intercooler/more boost application. With this we might be able to leave the ECU alone?? Time will tell.

It's a semi-luxury car, not a Civic or a Neon. I think we all pretty much leave our seats in the car. Heck, I even left shi+ in the trunk! But I did take out my nearly 75lb golfbag...

Anyway, I hear the tire pressure really does help. Beign around 25psi is supposedly the trick. Certainly, stickier tires and lighter wheels will help your times and stickier tires will definitely help your launch and 60' times...

We used to have a 2000 RL that I drove the crap out of. I also have a 78 Corvette (5.7L). Every once in a while my friends and I would joke about converting the Acura to an LS1 V8 and T56 transmission... not to mention RWD. Haven't gotten around to it- don't even have the Acura anymore, sadly.

I don't drag race. It's not really for me. All I know is that my uncle, another friend of mine, and a few other Corvette owners have all suggested tire pressure in the 10-15 pound range helped them hook up. Get an air compressor or an air tank so you can fill your tires back up for the ride home though- they also say the car rides like jello with the tires like that. Before you try it on the track, maybe you should see how it feels on the street on a secluded road somewhere. See if you can get better, faster launches.

The weight reduction I offered was just to maximize your ET. I prefer your style too- race it like you drive it. It's more honest. If you want to be faster though, you're going to need to maximize the weight on the front axle and minimize the weight on the rear. Not much you can do to shift weight to the front...

You're just jealous up there in Wolverine country because we can drag and play golf year round--out of the same car, too!!!

I wonder what my ET would be with three friends and fours bags of clubs in the car...Hmm...

Welcome to the club! I've been in the 13's for a long time with nothing more than a 100 shot of Nitrous. The car loves the stuff too. I've now run about 20 15lb bottles through it without the first hint of any engine damage.

What do you guys think? I was wondering if I should try 245/45-17's or 245/40-17's? I know that there might be clearance problems, but I'm getting them used so I'm not out a bunch of money if they fail.

I think the Michelin's suck...
You oughtta be able to get some Sumis or Nittos for around $100 a tire in that size...
