Toyota Camry quality

Just went down to help my mom buy a 2001 Camry. It seems that even Toyota is cutting costs on materials. This is compared to the 1992-1996 Camry models. First of all, the seat material is a lot thinner and feels cheap. The foam padding in the seat is softer and not as firm. The quality of the plastic on the dash is not as dense or solid feeling. Even the inside door handles feel cheaper upon opening than before. This Camry was made in Japan. I would maybe expect this from an American made car. The car still drives very well and has a very refined engine. Hopefully the new Toyotas will maintain their reputation for reliability. I guess all auto makers are cutting costs now days. After conditioning the dash, doors, and leather on my TLS, the quality of materials doesn't seem as bad as before. The conditioners seem to help prevent scratches to a certain degree

Nothing personal Rock, but this has WHAT to do with TL-S board? Probably should be posted elsewhere in the forum...

A while back some members were commenting that the quality of materials of the TLS vs. older model Acuras was not as good. I just wanted to comment that Toyota also seems to be cutting back on material cost.

I heard Lexol was the choice for the Leather conditioning. Did you use this on the Dash, etc. also? I was told by the Service Manager not to use Armor All type protectants on the dash, etc. Says down by the ocean here causes it to crack. Honestly never had that prob with my other cars tho. Just wonderin what u used through out the interior.

BTW, the 2002 Camry has better materials inside than the 97-01 models. Check it out. The car feels much better than the last generation.

Point well taken, Rock. I suppose that does make this relevant! I personally am also not thrilled with the interior quality of my TL-S as well.
