it should be done in D3 (3rd gear)... not in D5 or D4 or any other position.

Don't use D3. Put the car in sportshift and get up to D3 (remember to take off VSA).

If you do it in D3 you could downshift when you puch the gas to get your numbers. Locking it in 3 with sportshift eliminates any shifting concerns.

BTW - on my first dyno I forgot to take off VSA. I couldn't get over 30mph or about 2500 or so RPM.

I was so embarrassed.....

Its been stated at least 5 times now, but I'll say it again in big print so maybe you guys will actually read it. I don't mean to be rude, but this is the 3rd or 4th person who has speculated what was wrong when the problem was already stated.

The reason the dyno is off is because it was dynoed in 2nd gear and then upshifted to 3rd gear. During the upshift, the dyno spiked causing abnormal numbers to be recorded. During a dyno you should not be upshifting or downshifting. In a TL, the car should be dynoed in 3rd gear from as low an rpm as possible up to redline. NO SHIFTING! If you read his dyno properly, eliminated everything after the upshift (see the RPM chart and stop where the RPMS go down), he made about 200hp, which is right on the mark.

I hope someone actually read it this time.

Ill take my car back to the dyno and let them do it again. I dont believe the whp is that high as I mentioned in the beginning. I think its to the flywheel, but oh well. The dyno is in Wellington, FL so if anyone near there want to go let me know. On thursday its $35 dollars for 2 pulls and its very packed if you go after 8.

It isn't the crank hp either. WAY too much torque to be a correction. It's just a poor dyno job.

I guess you didn't read my post with the big font. Read it again, there is no dyno out there that measures horsepower and torque that should have an upshift or downshift in the graph. You measure power in 1 gear, from as low an RPM as possible to redline.

Go watch some dyno videos of other cars, see if they ever upshift after they hit the right gear. You'll hear them row through the gears till they hit the right one (3rd in our case), and then they gun it until redline and shutdown... they don't gun it in 1 gear, upshift, and keep gunning it ... thats not the way it works. If you don't understand how dynos measure horsepower and how horsepower and torque work with transmissions, you can goto http://www.howstuffworks.com and they have some very good explanations about how cars in general work.

All anyone has to do is watch a TV show like HorsepowerTV, Two Guys Garage, or Sports Car Revolution to see the right way to do a dyno pull.

OK guys, we've all had our little laugh at UglyPsycho, let's stand back and give him some breathing space...no need to keep picking on him. FWIW, he shared his dyno so that we can give him advice on what we know is to be right, so that we can correct him. Remember, this forum is to educate other members who are not as knowledgeable as us, not a forum to trash others. Don't give him a hard time about this, he already feels bad (I think).

No one is picking on him personally. He got HOSED by the dyno shop, plain and simple and we proved how and why.

Well, I think he has some reading comprehension problems

I can post the explanation a 4th time if you want? That doesn't include the 5 other times someone else explained it. I'm just joking with you UglyPsycho, no hard feelings!...

Yeah, we all know he got hosed. And you are right, we should prove how and why so he understands. But I was directing my comment to a specific person (not you) who should know better than calling him an idiot. That is uncalled for. My
