Talking Took my baby to the Track.....OK for stock!

- Ok so I took my car to the track today, Gainesville Raceway, it was fun, my first time doing it. God I suck on my R/T (reaction time) at first, I have a chance to do 4 runs only because it got crowded, also the track got hot, started at 54 degrees and it got to 70 degrees but it was so much fun.
- On my first run I forgot that I turned off the car and my VSA was on again when I started the race, too late, you blink you loose, R/T .678, 1/4-15.502 @92.53 That was against an Audi A4 modded pretty good. You'll see the papers I don't have a scanner but I took pictures of them.
- Anyway my intention was to have a base so when I do mods I know if I have an improvement.
- Second run, 15.157@93.23, this is not going to make sense, my R/T was .738, you go do the math cause I'm still trying to figure that out. This was against a Honda Accord using NOS.
- Third run, 15.205@93.18, this is even worst, my R/T was my best for the day .438 and still could not break the 15 sec 1/4 mile. This was against a Mustang Cobra.
All in all was fun, I learned and I know where my car stands.

This picture, against a Mustang Cobra

Nice times, congrats!! Can't wait to take mine to the track for the first time this coming spring. Just FYI, reaction time does NOT have an effect on your 1/4 mile time.

Time only starts counting when you trip the beam and start moving. In other words, you can sit at the line and have a R/T of 10 seconds and still run a 15.1. I use to do this when I raced my Eclipse GSX. I'd let the other guy go first and wait like 5 seconds so that I could concentrate on my launches. Helped out alot

It is going to be hard going from a 12.0 car to a 15.0 car But I do like the Acura better!!!

I am hoping to hit mid 14's with my new Icebox mod and perhaps even some better tires. Right now, I'm just jealous that you have an open track to run at while those around most of us are closed . Nice runs but I think you can do a lot better with some practice. Were you using SS, D4, D5, or gate shifting? I got the best results with SS. I must admit though, it was the first time I'd ever been to the track and I had had 2 years of practice driving my TLS in SS before hitting the track! That definitely helped.

All was done with D5, no SS used or gate shift

maxx96 the reason for recording R/T is in the event two equal cars race, bragging rights go to the guy who gets the best jump. otherwise it is insignificant really. Concentrate on leaving with minimal tire spin, have very little fuel in the tank (weight loss) and so on. Headers and a cold air intake will get you into the 14's easily. Nice job! You almost took that Accord with NOS.

I thought any R/T of anything lower than .5 is false starting?

I'm assuming an Accord V6, yes?

If so, that's a great time against the Accord with NOS. BTW, what shot did the Accord run? 50? 75?

Nice runs.

- Yes it was a V6

- Not sure but he said he was spraying, my guess will be 50 because I was so close.

- No, you could even be at 0 and all it means is that your reaction to the tree was perfect as far as timing when the green light is going to be "on" when your front tires start crossing the start line.

Crazymonkey..I believe that the last yellow light is on for .5 seconds, then the green illuminates. Some tracks use a .4 last yellow. Leaving before the green earns a red light. A reaction time clock is built into the system, it is good to note that there are two races in the quarter mile in a way; the one at the lights and the one going down the track. So in our example a .501 R/T is great as the green was illuminated for only .001 seconds when the cars' front tires rolled away and re-established the "beam". There is a beam going across the track that your tires "break" as you roll into position. That is when you are staged, ready to go. When you accelerate away the beam is re-established and your reaction time is recorded AND your cars' 1/4 mile timer is started too. Most experienced guys learn to hit the gas on the last yellow as by the time it is out and the green has come on the car is off and running. So a slow R/T will not give you a worse quarter mile time, but racing against a buddy with an equally fast car means the race is won or lost at the starting line!

I did have a 3/4 of tank and everything inside the car. I saw a lot of the guys taking back seats off, using slicks all kinds of stuff.

Congrats, man!

My first time at the track stuck me in the 14.5-14.6 range for almost the entire day with the same type of conditions and driving. Headers and CAI should easily put you in the 14's without any quibbles...

I can't wait to go again when I get some time...Can't wait!
