Angry Too Good To be True

On April 14 I received a call from Mike Harvey Acura saying that they were accepting my offer of 32,100 OTD for a 2003 SSM TL Type S because they had to meet their goals I go down there and an hour later they say that my "car" was just sold "by mistake" and that I would have to wait for the car to arrive in the next shipment. Fine I say. Today, the salesman calls me to tell me that the car is not available anymore at that price and that if I wanted the car MSRP was the price I had to pay. They say they are doing me a favor for selling at MSRP and not charging me the dealer markup of 2000. Cars Direct is only charging 30,500 +TTL and they claim Cars Direct is not reliable. Keeps going on and on about how demand suddenly shot up because people are getting their tax refunds and how they had to hire 5 extra salespeople to deal with the traffic. I'm like are you done with your BS. Well I told him good luck with his MSRP approach and he's like if you really want the car he'll cut his commission and sell it for $100 less. I'm like at MSRP and you only make $100, I think you better find another job. Finally, he's like if you find anything cheaper than MSRP somewhere else to call him. Pissed off, I tell him that I'll buy it somewhere else and if I have to I'll pay over MSRP but no matter what you just lost my business. Two hours later I get an offer from another dealer for 32,600 OTD....Can't wait to see Mike Harveys reaction when i tell them I paid MSRP, even thoughh i didn't, at another dealership just to piss them off.

Sorry for the long post

No need to apologize, I enjoyed the story. Tell us what happens if you go back..to rub the salt in he's wound sort of speak. It never amazes me how some salesmen do business.

Losing a sale probably hurts them where it hurts them the most......losing $$$$'s. Some of them are greedy, arrogant POS'!

I know several people who purchased cars through CarsDirect. Most transactions were smooth... one guy had a problem, but it was a little on and he still got a really good deal. I've actually used them as a bargaining tool. I printed out their price, went to a dealer and said that if they didn't beat that by $100, I was getting it through CarsDirect. Well, they beat it... but then my fiance said that she didn't like the car... so we walked. Moral is... CarsDirect works.....

Good luck and keep us posted.....

Back when I got my 99 TL, they did the same crap to me. I hate Mike Harvey Acura, those greedy bastards. I bought from Oakland Acura instead.

Hey, pretty good deal. I just got my TL-S for 33000 out the door but because they liked my credit rating, they threw in 72k/7yrs warranty, 5 yr unlimited paint & interior warranty, stage III lojack, dealer alarm, and some other things I don't remember for 34500 out the door....I love my TL-S....i might get another one for my brother....

Great Story-

I love shoving it right back at them. It was tough here in Chicago as well. I just bought my 03 TLS two weeks ago and they said that the market is strong and there is money in the area so we are getting generally what we want for these cars-

I just call every dealer within 60 miles and see who has the inventory and is willing to drop their shorts from the start then work down. You gotta love the guy who comes in soooo high-

Well, we need 6000 dollars down and we can finance you around 544.00 dollars a month for 5 years, and I dont think I have any wheel locks laying around parts and somehow the car didn't come with floor mats( some othor salesman stole them for anothor delivery) Sooo, ya think we could get this done tonight??

CALL AROUND - SEE EVERYBODY

Talking

Rub plenty of salt in them wounds some dealerships & sales people are -$$E$. I remember when I was trying to get a new car onetime. This was my 1990 ACCORD I had purchased a new1980 Prelude from that same dealership 9yrs before. I had my Prelude in for service one mourning & they had just released the new ACCORD. I ask this salesperson about it & he gave me short answers. He did not want to be bothered with me. I was dressed in my jeans & tennis shoes. I was there waiting for my car to be serviced he just sat & ate his breafast & gave me short answers. I am not racist or anything like that. I am black & this sales person was black & another salesperson was of latin origin. In walks this white couple & they are asking about the new ACCORD. The two salesman jumped up like Jack Flash & are giving them the royal treatment. I was mad as hell about this here I am a regular to this dealership & they treat me like crap. Now they might not have known me but the people in service sure did. I wanted to complain to manegment about this but I got good revenge on the two butt hole salespeople. I had purchased my Prelude from another salesman 9yrs before. I did not know if he was still there. That dealership also sold Pontiacs at that time so I checked to see if he was still there. This guy was a Master Salesman it was printed on his cards. He sold 10 to 20 more cars a month than other salesman. This guy had sold my family 4 cars going back to my fathers 1964 & 1972 Pontiac. He also sold my sister a 77 Sunbird. When that Pontiac dealership closed down he sent us a letter saying where he was at. He wanted to sell me a Pontiac in 1980 but I said no I wanted the Prelude. This car was in my mothers name since I was only 18 at that time & for Insurance it was best. The Prelude was a replacement for the 72 Pontiac. This was gas crissis time & after my father died we gave that car to my uncle.
Any way I called this same salseman & he was still across the street in Pontiac sales. I asked him could he sell me a new 1990 ACCORD & he said sure. This salesman by the way was white he worked with me since this was my 1st new car in my name. I went to pick up my new ACCORD & the 2 butthole salesman came outside. They asked me who had sold the car to me since they were the top Honda salesman at that time. & I told them the guy over in the Pontiac sales. They were mad as hell at this sale & said to each other he can't do that. I then told them that the he just did. I told them how they treated me a few months before when I was asking about the new ACCORD. I told them the next time watch how they treat people that could be your sale.

Sweet story man! Thanks for sharing it . The good part is how you were able to tell them "why".

carsdirect unreliable my a$$. I got my car through carsdirect. this was in 2001. price was as quoted on website +destination, tax and 400 dealer fee. (400 dealer fee was a little expensive but fia, the car was still decently under MSRP) no hassle, no deal making, everything was told to me before hand. I walked up with the check prewritten. I could've walked away had I not liked the dealer fee.

they do take a deposit before they start looking for your car tho. They claimed that they would've returned the deposit had I not liked it. the deposit was later credited upon the total bill since I wanted the car.

Yeah, me too! Although I live in Northern Cali, the Cars Direct prices for Southern Cali were almost 2K less (I plugged in my Dad's zipcode). Caught a plane down to LA for $50 bucks and drove my car back in style!

Didn't actually use the Cars Direct folks for the final transaction since they couldn't find a WDP/Parchment TL-S w/Navi fast enough... but I used their price when I worked with my Acura 101 West salesman. They beat the Cars Direct price and I made the deal! Easiest deal I've ever done. No haggling... just told them "the facts" and they wanted the deal.

Hope your deal works out!

V.
