Got an 01 TL-P with 76k miles with oem spoiler and type-s rims for $4000.00 cash , don't mind the fact it's a salvage and missing some parts lmfao. But no really, about a $1000.00 put down towards car it will look off the dealer good.

Cus he still thinks $5,500.00 is a good deal and is happy to have a car?? I would just sue the seller and double my cash.

I would bring the car to the police station, tell them the story and have them check the VIN for a theft!

If it is stolen and you go to them asking, they are not likely to think you stole it, if they find you driving it and it's stolen...you're up shit creek without a paddle

You can hope it's not stolen all you want. When you go to register the damn thing it will most likely come up stolen and you'll lose the car anyways. The sooner you have the cops check it out, the greater chance they have of possibly finding this guy. At least if you lose the money you can still have the satisfaction of having the guy locked up in jail.

as of right now i just went to the site NICB which is national insurance crime bureau . there a place for VINCHECK to see if the car was stolen or not. and after i enter the vin. it say has not been identified as a vehicle listed in the VINCheck Theft Records....

wonder if it accurate, but i will make sure soon.

Dude just go straight to the authorities, say what happened even if its not stolen you can get those guys in for changing the odometer reading since that is a federal offense. And also did you say that the carfax showed the real owner, see if you can contact him in anyway?? And if the owner never said it was stolen and he did sell it to you, jsut through someone else then tell him to give you the money back or you will report him for changing the odometer

you can change the guages in any car- as long as the required and approved sticker with old and new readings is attached to the car
There is even a place on registration/car sales paperwork to indicate the shown mileage is not correct- and boxes to check 1, exceeds limits or replaced or..
Things break and its cheaper to get a junkyard unit,,or the original guy liked the look of the new guages...
01 there was no type S- not till 02 models

try calling the cops- say you want to run a VIN on a car for sale
they check every car they stop thru the computer- I would hope they will check it for you!

I replaced a faulty cluster in my vehicle one time by sending my defective one in for a reman. unit. All they did was ask me what to set the mileage at on the replacement. No stickers, etc.

DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING INSIDE OR OUTSIDE THE CAR.

If it is indeed stolen, the police might be able to get a fingerprint or two. Don't touch the door handles inside or outside or any other high traffic areas you usually touch. Fingerprints can sometimes track people faster than names. If you absolutely have to go somehwere, wear some latex gloves or something. Then pray no one sees you wearing them and reports you for "getting away with a stolen vehicle."

BTW, his "cell #" is probably ficticious. If you did talk to him on it, its probably a trac-fone and is likely in the trash somewhere.

You were definitely screwed over. My car is an 02, and was made January of 2002. I'm not sure if you could really get an 02 in 2001.

And just because carfax says it has 155,000 miles on it, doesn't mean that's what it really has. That was mileage at last inspection, unless date is provided, it could've been from 2007.

If you got his name, put it into google. There is a search machine for people, can't remember the name right now, but it gives a little list of realitives. You have to pay for any other information. Look up the names it gives you in the phonebook and make some calls. If you get close enough, he'll get nervous. Maybe you can smoke him out that way, or atleast find his address?

I am sorry man but hey Non-type S isn't so bad still a fast car. But seriously It is probably a type s with a swapped guage cluster. See if to the left of the steering wheel if it says VSA or TCS base is TCS VSA is Type-s quick way to find out unless this doucher swapped that too

Unfortunately, this is a relatively low priority crime for the cops, not that they won't take a report. They will likely put minimal resources into going after this guy unless he is associated with a car theft ring or he's a known criminal who has pulled this scam on others. This is just my experience after having my pick-up stolen. Not exactly the same circumstances but it still involves vehicle crime which is way below murder, rape, assault, etc. Now if only your car were a Lambo, Bently, or even a Vette - that might get the cop's attention. But an older Acura?: .

Best advice is to go ahead and make a report to the police. If the car is hot best that the police know about it now than having to explain why you're driving stolen property.

I think we are being hosed here folks--

between the user id of thief, and taking several days to run it past the cops or dmv to register the car....

New cars hit the showroom in Sept- so a july car production could be the next years model easily

Yes if you have a shop work on the guages they car reset the mileage to match, and those replacing the entire unit simply fill out the change tag and attach to door or similar area, check the `replaced` box on next bill of sale and be done
