TLS - Accord - BMW have some fun

Ok driving along got an accord on my ass, keeps messin then gets next to me and passes me, didnt gun it or nothing but since he was on me for so long i wanted to see if maybee he wanted to play, got next to him but he just sped up to 60 and stayed there, were on a 45mph road keep in mind. cruising along next to him he just sits there and dont even look over.... came to a light, and he was a car ahead of me in the next lane over, if htat makes sence, and a either 330i or a 33xi 4 door pulls up next to me an older man, prob in his 50s with grey hair is sitting hter sipping a drink and just revin his engine looking at me. The light turns green. the car infront of me moves up i cut infront of the accord and take off, the BMW got held up then cut around the accord and chased me down, when i saw him coming droped into third and took off about a car length ahead of him and pulling hit 85 and had to shift into 4th, droped my revs to 3500 and he started pulling on me, damn that tall 4th grear, but never really caught up, then we had cars infront of us, we both slowed down he turned off waiving and that was it. so it was a fun little race, the guy wanted to see what he had, keep in mind i had a person in the passenger seat , the beemer was by him self, but runing 110 on a 45 not to smart. sorry so long but had to get the whole picture, for a car that has 225 i still say bmw make some quick cars....... my friends 330ci chiped, smokes me no probs..

I meant that in a car like TL-S (VTEC) and when racing somebody you want to stay in the lowest gear possible. The 3rd gear will redline at around 100-105 mph. So if you were not going to do more than 100 mph you should've stay in the 3rd. I sometimes shift into 4th to avoid the sudden loss of power that happens when shifting from 3rd to 4th at higher speeds. It feels like the car just stops accelerating. But if you do not want to push it then why race? The TL-S power is in its 7000 RPM redline.

I have gone over 100 on SS in third. I have held it at 100 in third gear for about a 1/4-1/2 mile on some twisty highway exit/distributor. At the rpms generated at that speed you switch vtec profiles really quick in 4th gear. Our car is a rocket... and just like the stereo (just keeps getting louder and louder the more you push it), the more I ask out of the TLS, the more it gives. amazing.

hhhhm , seems like my car after 6krpm starts to not push as much as it does from 5k to 6k, i dont wanna red line cause the speed ur accelirating at and the speed the ss reacts to teh shift, u will hit red line and start to have fuel cut off to ur engine faster then the car will shift to 4th and continue fuel supply and if that does happend and u start to loose fuel supply u just lost rite , unless u are able to shft at that one second that it shifts to 4th rite before u hit red line, then ur flyin, guess i got some learning to do in my timing when i race ...

Damn, I think that's one of the reasons why I got beat by a turbocharged Civic Si on the tracks last weekend. My trap speed was about 96 mph, but I had shifted into 4th by then. If I had stayed in 3rd, I think I would've kicked his butt. I was leading him the whole way until I shifted to 4th, then he started gaining and eventually beat me by 0.20s! Damn damn damn. The reason I shifted was because I didn't want to hit the fuel shut off at the end and lose acceleration. Our 4th is just too damn tall!.

ppl with headers, is 4th gear faster now that u have headers?? i know its a tall gear, which we all hate but im sure if u have headers and then have a Vteck activator turn on vteck at 4k instead of 5.2 then we shoud be whoopin up

Shift into 4th when you only have like 200 more rpms left before redline...DO NOT shift at redline or the fuel cut off will kick in. Our sport shift technology lags...with headers it raises the redline so that you can shift at redline without hitting the fuel cutoff. 3rd is by far a very strong gear for freeway driving. Usually you should be able to take a lead in third and pull far enough to where you do need to shift into 4th (roughly around 100mph) and shut down or keep going.

True but this was two good imports racing for top speed at this piont, i had to shift or red line and thats when my weekness kicked in and his power overwelmed but since i was ahead he had a challenge but im sure that if the cars were not infront of us to make us slow down, he would of eventually caugh up untill 4th gear reached Vteck and then its on but we would of been up to 120mph or so by then

Great post by the way.

We all have to understand that German Horsepower is different then Japanese Horsepower. It's like 2 different horses!

Just because a TL Type S has significantly higher horsepower than a a 225 horsepower BMW 330i, doesn't mean it's significantly faster than a 330i.

My god....the only way I can explain this exhiiration in a 330i is the kick that jerks back your head when you just lightly press on the gas pedal to the roaring of the BMW engine. This is enough to make you think you are in some sort of high performance sports car. Of course the 330i is no M3 (I can't even imagine what that feels like!). Plus the fact that the 330i is rear wheel drive, the launch is as quick or quicker than the Tl Type S.

Don't get me wrong, I love the TL Type S, but the BMW 330i is a true sports sedan and it is true when they say that everyone else is just trying to emulate it in their own fashion.

Disagree completely. I drove 330ia and 330ix with the auto tranny and there is no way they are faster than TL-S. Smother - yes, faster - no. Even 540 auto is not much faster than TL-S below 100 mph.

true sergey but the 330i in a stick with a some what skilled driver will whoop our asses. and i have to agree ACURAGUYJ, when u barely step on a bmw pedal the torque is full blown, im sure that if me and him were to run from a dead spot equal ground, it would of been an equal run or he wouldof had me a nity bit, i used to work at a BMW dealer, and ive driven friends cars, it may not seem faster but in reality its designed to run faster even if it does have less horse power, also thing about this... displacment, our cars stock at the wheels is getting about 190-200hp, its been seen diff all over, i guarante u that the 330 is gettinga bout the same or more with a much better tranny, which sux for us but hey like it was said before, german vs japanees...

yeah bmw does get credit here for the 330. i was in one of those when they came out. he was flooring it constantly, so i dont know if its smooth or not. from my experience, those damn beemers do have some weird power. whatever number they claim, thats real power. just like the corvette. 350 doesnt sound too extreme, but that thing is a jet. basically, dont let numbers tell you anything, let the actual perf. talk instead.

oh yeah, keep in mind the torque curve, our torque generally sucks, bmw is pretty broad throughout the range, so power is there early on. ours take a bit longer and isn't that high anyways.
I whooped on a Volvo S90 tonight, ive seen him run with a stock gs3, and they are pretty close(maybe a car length at most), i beat him by at least 3 cars length but had to slow down by 65. total destruction, and yes he knows how to race.
