Tl Vs Mx6?

Sup everyone. Outside from that story when I burned an Eclipse,
My friend has a MX6. The newer style body. I don't know alot about them, so I thought I'd ask if you guys thought I might be able to beat him. All he has in an intake, and an exaust. Plus his is a standard. But, I personally think Trip-tronic shifts faster. I dunno, that's not the question. He's a pretty good driver, and is always asking me, "Pauly, when we gonna race?" Figured I'd throw this out there. He is very confident that his 160 HP car can take me. I don't know why. Thanks guys,

Your car will win but please, HP is not everything to a car.

true, There's the tires (grip), torque, weight, aerodynamic, tranmission, engine types, handleing (unless its a straight run), drive type (fwd, rwd, awd) and most importantly the driver. But I'm pretty sure you can take him.

Uh, Trip-tronic is faster.... No intervul between netural gears. There is no neutral... So therefore, it is faster. The slowest Trip-tronic can be, is the fastest standard can me. I'm a good shifter, and I'm sure he is too, but he's only an 18 year old kid, so I'm sure there's better. I know my shifting is alot faster.

OMG dude, so you're saying that you think tiptronic is faster than a stick shift?? Are you kidding me??? Plz say yes. There's a reason why people get stick shift instead of automatic...CUZ ITS FASTER!!! jeez

Its easy to think our sport shift is faster.....but there is a lag response if you pay attention. Some cars I driven with Sport Shift Equlivant have better reponse then our TLs. So unless he's horrible at manual, he can go between gears faster then our TL. but our car can still kick ass and there more ways for him to screw up then you on shifting......

I know there is a lag response time, but it's pretty minimal. I tried it out today, on the highway, and from dead stop. I know for a fact that it's smoother than a manual. And it's alot smother than an automatic. Soo.... Verdict is in. I bet I can take him. The clutch disengages the tranny on a standard transmission car. Our trannys are never disengaged, as far as I know, so therefore you just keep your foot on the gas and go. With a standard, you have to do alot more than push up a lever. It's more of a science, and to each his own for every car and that inbetween. I think trip-tronic is faster, and no I'm not kidding.

This is true, but an atomatic can never ever THINK like a human can. This is whyStandard drivers usually 99% of the time has an advantage. Unless it's a trip-tronic.

I feel that a trip-tronic has the pros of both, and the cons of neither. I think it's better, personally. I have to say, I would rather have a standard though. I love working the clutch and ****. But for racing, trip-tronic is better. Why do you think F1 cars have it? (Obviously it's a little different) But the concept holds.

Dude f1 cars have a TRUE semi-manual transmission. It essentially is a manual in that it has no torque converter like an auto, it has the same components as a manual, except you shift by hitting paddles on the wheel. These systems are programmed to shift in literally milliseconds. Our tiptronics are not by any means a true semi-manual. That means it still has the torque converter, and still has the disadvantages of an auto tranny. A manual can shift much faster and smoother, w/ a decent driver. But yes, you can easily take an mx6 still.

I would never replace a manual with a tip. Either go all the way and get the auto, or get a manual. Either way, try taking him on a twisty stretch of road. I gaurantee you won't even be able to see him. He would be WAY ahead of you. Now I hope you don't actually go out there and do this, but just wanted to throw it out there. I don't think a HEAVILY modified TL suspension will come close to a stock mx-6 suspension. It is truly amazing for a FWD car. Now if you do race him and beat him, do NOT come on here saying you can beat any MX-6 ever not matter what.

I have manual on my 350Z.....I took it to work the other day........I usually drink and eat in the car(I know its not safe but I need those extra 20 mins to sleep) but it was such a pain with a stick.......I like my TL for having SS for things like that (have you can shift up and down plus you can just leave it in auto for morning drives). Now you said go all the way and get the auto or get a manual???? So having SportShift on my TL doesn't make it auto anymore?.......................................... ...... I'd agree that people shouldn't come on here and say stupid stuff like the TL can take any cars.....but its a TL forum and I think we should still gloat about our little victories over another brand.......

Don't worry about it HZM, the overpriced VW, I mean Audi dude there seems to hate me. Oh well, Those German cars suck anyways. Try to repair them. Go figure. Anyhow, I'm not gonna pay attention to him anymore. As for a MX6's suspension, I think our 30k dollar car might have a better suspension than a 23k Mazda. Plus it's older. (Yes, I know the new Mazda car is pretty sick) But reguardless, today I'll go into work and tell that biatch what's up. =) Just kidding guys, he's my friend. By the way, you have a 350Z?? Dude, that car kicks ass. I want one so bad. I don't believe you have a TL AND a 350Z. You, are by far, the coolest person I know, and I don't even know you.
You rock.

You are sad dude. I don't hate you. I think you are pretty pathetic when you post trash you don't know or understand. You statements on the eclipse thread were on par with the Darwin Awards. If you think that an S4 is just an overpriced VW, thats your opinion. For the record, my car had way fewer problems than my friends TL. So don't try to bash its reliability. Sorry if you had problems with VW's, I haven't. And do you really think that price dictates how well one car can do something over another? Here is a gaurantee for you. The MX-6 has a WAY better suspension than your $30K TL. It has a better suspension that just about any car out there. The Probe/MX-6 have one of the very best suspensions ever put into a FWD car. I am pretty sure you are young, hence not completely educated as of yet, so I guess I will TRY to take it easy on you. What I ask of you is to stop posting about definites and gaurantees about stuff which you just don't know about.

Shifting speed really isn't the issue in a manual vs auto debate. What it comes down to is an auto has a torque converter, which saps about 10% of the HP ouput. No way around it. A manual does not have this limitation. So with two identical cars--except one is manual and one is auto--the manual one will go faster. Not because the shifting is faster, but because it has a better HP/weight ratio.

True manumatics, like F1 cars and the Ferrari Enzo etc, have an electronically operated clutch and no torque converter. Now in these instances, the manumatics could be faster *in theory* because the shifting is always done at the optium point and done very quickly.

I know that an automatic tranny loses 25% HP, and a standard only loses about 15 or 10. (At the wheels) I know that the flywheel deal is more than what the tires get. But his car is a standard with 160HP, ours is an auto with 225HP... From what he tells me, the cars weigh about the same.

Yes you would smoke his butt easily. I think we've all agreed to that.. but then you made the issue that you shift faster than him which is totally wrong.
