TL-S VS. TL-P gear shifts

about a week ago i took my tl-s to ryan's open road acura on rt 18 in east brunswick nj... i had noticed that my car shifts a bit rough... it almost feels like a slight jerk everytime the gears shift... anyway, i actually had the mechanic drive it while i was in the car and he said that its perfectly normal and that the tl-s shifts rougher than the tl-p... is this guy full of it b/c he doesnt wanna fix a tranny that hasnt completely failed, or does the tl-s actually shift harder than the tl-p and im just worrying... by the way i have driven an 03 tl-p b.c my father used to lease one and id take it out often... but it has been a while since ive driven one but i dont remember it ever shifting like this. oh and just to humor everyone ... and this is what made me second guess the mechanic in the first place.. i asked him for fun what to look for as signs of tranny failure he said and i quote "if the car doesnt move, and your service lights come on"... thanks man! your a good mechanic! haha .. anyway any input would help a lot

i think it means your tranny is wearing down.... or it needs a ATF change.

you should ask another dealer what they could do in this situation.

he was right about the signs of a tranny failure. It will come all at once within maybe a days time. It will randomly downshift multiple gears and may refuse to change gear at that point. Rough shifting is not a failed tranny, and may not even be the start of one. My car shifts rough, and has for 30k miles since my 1st tranny was replaced. So I don't think you have anything to worry about yet

You might want to try re-teaching the car computer. Just disconnect your battery for about 30 mins (make sure you have your stereo/navi unlock codes), reconnect, and then drive it very smoothly for a while. Perhaps the previous owner drove the car hard and so it shifts faster (and harder) because it remembers the driver's driving habits. I did that after my brother had my car for a while (and drove it much harder than I told him to), and it now shifts a lot better

thanks guys... well im at 71k and from what you guys are saying im fine... so until it reaches the mid 90k's im just gonna ride it til it dies.. then after that maybe ill have to be a little more anal about the tranny so i dont get screwed after the 100k mark.
