TL-S vs. 330 convertible

Lined up next this 330 convertible the other day, and thought it would be a rare opportunity to race this guy...

Having almost no experience racing my car, I got slaughtered...

Light turned green, buddy let his clutch out and slowly matted the throttle, and got a great launch. I just stomped on the gas, spun the wheels big time, the VSA came on so aggressively that the car totally bogged and almost shut down. By the time power came back on, buddy was two cars ahead of me. I kept it mashed and actually gained a 1/2 car on him, but was still pretty far behind before we let off at about 80mph.

At the next set of lights, I was ready. Turned off the VSA, ready to slowly put down that throttle to avoid wheel spin. Light turned green, buddy sits there, takes off like an old lady... I had no opportunity to show him my car was probably faster than his. Another snooty bimmer driver with a big smile on his face. Arrrggghh!!

Yes your going to have to learn to launch a car like the TLS with the VSA off. Once you learn it will be a good run against a 330 manual (if they can drive) an auto shouldnt be too much of a problem.

I pulled up next to a 328 the other day and I didn’t take off hard at the light but hard enough to gauge whether he would try. I never initiate races but I will race if the conditions are safe and they start it. So he doesn't so I didn’t really push it and I stay about a car length ahead of him. We hit another light... I’m thinking the guy wasn’t going to try and pull anything like the last light. Light turns green an he bolts, I dont even have my foot on the accelerator yet... at least I stomped it at that point and reeled him in pretty good but I bet the jack ass is on some BWM board saying he crushed a TLs... He’s just lucky... I would have spanked him hard if he really wanted it. I think these guys think the "I have a beamer" attitude can compensate for the 55 hp he’s down right from the git-go.

Rule of thumb --

anytime you guys pull up to a BMW 328+ (nothing less than a 328i) .. assume it's stick, and assume the playa wants to run...

i don't care if it looks like a librarian is driving the bimmer... pretend like it's a cocky mid-20's swinger looking to show off his ride to his woman sitting shot-gun....

word...

btw.. i ran my Type S against a conv't BMW 330Ci 5-spd .. got smoked by a carlength to 90mph .. but he got the better launched.. no buts.. i lost, fair and square.

When you say you got smoked by a carlength to 90mph, do you mean that his wheels were smoking all the way up to 90mph? Or did you mean that you lost by a carlength (which I don't think is as bad as really getting smoked)?

Oh yes, I'm ready now, big time. I took my VSA computer out and roofed it, put BFG drag radials up front, and 100shot sneaky pete! 3 series are going darn hard.... 5 series, save for the M5, are also toast, not to mention my tranny.
