TL-S or RX-7
I've narrowed down my search for a car to two: the 03 TL-S or a 93 twin turbo RX-7. I can get the RX-7 with a Veilside body kit for around 23K....and the car would be way faster than a TL-S.....any ideas on which to choose?

If I could have waited a year for a car, I would have gotten the Mazda RX-8. I saw the car at the NY auto show not too long ago, and it looked hella sweet. It's supposed cost around 30k too. So, if you can wait a bit, check out the RX-8.

That seems like a lot for the RX-7. My friend just picked up a '93 RX-7 TT for about 13k. It had a full exhaust, body kit and spolier. It had about 60K on it (original) and the car looks good.
Either way though its a sweet car!

Unfourtunately these cars are in totally different classes. All considering.. I personally would go for an RX-7. But hey, I like to go FAST! An RX-7 is strickly a sports car. The TL-S is the all-round package. You can get the kids in there no problem, lots of trunk space, great speed, good mod options, great looks and decent handling. An RX-7 weighs 2400 lbs approx. +/- 200lbs. I forget. In contrast most cars today weigh 3300lbs. This is the major cause for the RX7's exceptional acceleration, handling and braking. It is a thoroughbred racecar. The RX7 will end up costing you alot more in repairs, its costly to repair. Both are awesome cars, each satifying seperate needs. I feel, however, that the TLS satisfies all needs, but not as great as a sports car satisfies that area or a luxury car does so its area. Its the all round satisfaction vehicle . Hope this helped! Let us know your decision!

for me, 23k for a 93 rx-7 is way to high. i believe that u can find a cheaper one. another thing to worry about is that there is some kind of engine problem on that car & that's why a lot of the engine is being rebuilt. if u really go for the rx-7, be sure that u don't use syn oil or the engine will probably die.

heh mind made
after some thinkin ive decided that the TL-S would easily be a better value...but then again since i love speed...i think im going to wait and see if the 04' TL-S would be redesigned and maybe even with a better tranny & more powerful engine

This brings up a good subject..... I remember when the RX-7 was the hot rod to buy, there where two other cars in the same class.
The Nissan 300 ZX Turbo and the Toyota Supra Turbo. I have read comparisions about each and each one has its own strengths and weaknesses. What it boils down to is performance-wise each is very close, but the RX-7 is a little faster by a 1/10th or so to 60 mph. I remember the article listed the 300 ZX Turbo as the best all around car in this class, as far as performance and reliability and all-around. They said the RX-7 has a pretty rough ride kind of like a go cart and they said the engine was great for reving but didn't ave very good realibility.
And this brings up the next point..... Why would anyone compare a TLS to a 1993 Mazda RX-7??? What a comparision. Heck you probally are asking for a lot of repairs and maintence with the Mazda. Get a S2000 for a better all around car with out the head aches. All around sports daily driver = TLS, weekend racer = S2000.

The RX-7 is more of a second car. A weekend toy to have fun with. The rotary is not all that dependable, but if you maintain it properly you can enjoy many miles out of it. It is just like any other car, proper maintenance is key. However, if it fails on you it is costly to repair. It certainly does not have the bullet proof reputation that the supra engine has. Also, the price is ridiculous for that RX-7.
Stick to the TLS, and if in the future you come across some extra money, go and get an RX-7 (FOR LESS THAN 15k) and toy with it, single turbo conversion and all that good stuff.
