Post TL OR RL

Just curious what everyone would've done. Given the recent asking price for the RL ($34-36k) would you have:

A) Purchased your current TL, or

B) For the additional cash, purchased the RL

I would've gone for the RL. Even though I view that car as an older person's ride (no offense to our older members), I don't think I could've passed up on the deal. Yes the RL is less sporty but oh the luxury. And best of all it's about $10k less than the MSRP.

IMO, I would still buy the TL.
It is smaller (not by much), more powerful, and looks even better with mods.
But it's a totally different story with the new RWD V8 RL.

Theres even less mods available for the RL though... =/ And I'd have lkess money left over to buy mods.

that would be a hard one for me, but I might still pick the TL because it's faster and have more money left for mods.

For around 34K, I would if I have a family or living with gf. The RL is better quality, but a bit too old for my age.......

I think it is an awesome deal... But that's for you guys in the states..... The TL is cheaper in Canada....

Cool

Good question. Being part of the OFOB (old fart on board) crowd - I looked at the RL when I bought the TL three months ago. I actually had my father with me at the time - yep - he was pushing for the RL - liked the look etc. Me - I felt it to be too large, a little blah in styling and not well suited to me. The TL was sportier, large enough to carry me and some friends, and was a better deal in my opinion. I can see why some would prefer the RL - just not me. Tink

When I first brought my wife to check out the TL, she kept checking out the RL as we were waiting for my sales guy. She asked, what about this one? I told her to look at the sticker price and she said, never mind! The price was still $45K back in 1999. Being an old guy with a family, I still like the TL!

RL was a little bit slow for my taste. But it was real luxurious. I loved it, however if i wanted to choose, I would choose an RL with 20 inch rims.

(I love my car, but the RL is just PHAT!)

If I had the cash, I'd still wouldn't get the RL.

I'd say the RL, made in JAPAN! Plus those door handles are so plush on the inside, I'd spend an hour just opening and closing the doors, which also have a more satisfying sound. A year ago the RL's were still fetching prices in the low 40's....thus the TL. If I could get an RL and a little car to play with on the weekend, I'd be happy.

RL all the way. Yep, the door handles inside the car are padded in a leatherette that feels really luxurious when you grab them!

The RL looks great in silver or black, and is much nicer inside. I also think the car will age better than the TL, i.e. - will look better in five years.

The RL is just a nicer car. Imagine a Lexus LS with 210 HP and that's what you got in the RL.

Thumbs up

If the prices for the RL were as low as they are now, i would have bought the RL. It is bland, but it has fogs, memory seats, and ride that would put you to sleep! It just seems more refined.

I've got a single reason for calling veto on the RL. There's no way I can reach down and adjust my seat comfortably while the door is closed. What the hell were they thinking putting the map pockets so close to the seat controls?!

I have a 96 RL that we bought new that I will be trading in on a TL Type S. I have compared all the features and other than power steering wheel tilt and adjustment, the TL has all the toys and then some. The ride is very soft on the RL but it has no handling and no power. The TL offers a lot more for the money than the current RL. We are old timers-I am 57. We will get an RL next time.

I went to my local dealer and their RL price is $42,000 w/o navi and $44,000 w/ navi.

Where did you see RL for $34,000 - $36,000?

Saw several posts a while back that people were getting quotes from the dealer for that price. I'm just guessing that's bacause the new RL is scheduled to be realeased. More power and RWD?

Question

The styling on the new RL is nice, but the TL is a lot more sportier. The RL is along the lines of the big Benz's and BMW (Size wise), so if you like cruisers, go with the RL. Does anyone have any pics of RL's w/wheels on them. I have seen a few and always thought with the right wheels, they could be tight.
