Question TL Navi Question

Well, thanks to the fine (and quite persuasive!) people on this board, I've decided to post this navi question here...

After having read the manuals about 3 times cover to cover, I'm still a bit confused as to the trip routing algorithms on this nav system.

The system comes with four (4) basic trip routing options as you're probably well aware. The route can be plotted by Direct Route, Easy Route, Minimize Freeway or Minimize Toll Roads. To test it out, I picked a known route and tried all four routing methods. None of the four picked the best route. They basically skipped over the obvious.

I've had other nav systems in the past (Philips CARiN, for one) and those came with routing methods like Shortest Distance and Shortest Time. This nav system doesn't seem to be able to compute a trip using those methods.

Am I wrong (I hope)?

Thanks in advance,

-pio

Tried to respond -- but too many screw-ups. Too many Sam Adams. Maybe manana.

Our navi will only tell you the direct path. I have also tried this a few times where I know the road but wanted to see if the navi can get me there faster. Nope.

In other words, our navi does not know short-cuts.

BTW, I have the HD navi in my 99TL.

I've found that using the Navigation for trips where you know how to get there will only cause frustration and will force you to question why it takes you on such silly routes.

It's AWESOME when you don't know where you're going though. It may take you out of the way by a few streets, but at least you know you'll difinitely get there.

Especially reassuring on a pitch dark, foggy night, in an unfamiliar region..
