TL got Rear-ended [pics]
My friend and I were screwing around and he ended up rear ending my TL with his S4. Can someone give me an estimate of the damages? The bumper obviously needs a repaint, also may be cracked. Lip is cracked. Exhaust looks bent (point outward), and Trunk has a gap in it. Also the trunk looks like it's been pushed in. We didn't file a report because he doesn't want to go through insurance so he's gonna be paying out of pocket. I'll prob get an estimate tomorrow, but can anyone ballpark it?
His S4 got much more damaged, started smoking and making weird noises:

he's a good friend of mine so shouldn't be any problem there. We'll see what route he wants to take.
plus the repairs might take a week or two? so i would need a rental car?

Full Tank Of Gas = $40
Going out to lunch with a friend = $25
2 Beautiful Cars = $10,000+
Getting rear ended by your friend...Priceless
For everything else there's Visa
JK Glad you guys are ok, shouldn't be more then a grand for both of you like stated above

haha nah we both had to stop abruptly because of a car ahead. my brakes were perfect they stopped me like a cm from the car in front of me (don't think abs activated). he pressed his brakes (which are huge btw) and said that he slid and hit my car.
so how long do you think it would take to do the actual repairs (i'm assuming i'll get a quote first and let them get the parts which will take a while and then send my car in for the actual repairs). the actual repairs shouldn't take more than a few days correct? because if so i can continue to use my car (runs fine) and drop it off for a weekend or something and then pick it up and not have to get a rental. I pushed the bumper back into place so it's not hanging there

What your problem is?
You might want to go with insurance after the estimates are done....
Your rear two quarter panels are definetly bent and either need to be replaced or bent back (bent back is cheaper but strength is sacrificed if you get rear ended ever again)... the bumper can be fixed, even a new bumper for you is gonna be cheap... I am guessing you will be made whole for less than $1,500.... his Audi S4 on the other hand, is a different story... a buddy of mine got into a minor fender bender (nowhere near as bad as the pic posted) and it cost him a little over $2,000, your 'friend' is looking at close to $3 grand is repairs.... let us know if any of our estimates are close.... good luck..

i'd give an estimate but the estimate police will come get me if im wrong.
that sucks that a little fun turns into a big uh oh.
hi car looks worse though, i bet he wasnt too happy either!
if you want a lip kit though, now is the time to start piecing together with that stock under spoiler being cracked.. no need to pay 100-150 less than a rear lip kit. i say turn a bad situation into a plus

so you were within an inch of the guy in front of you and then your buddy hit you that hard and you didnt even move?
hard to believe. but i guess that means you were pretty lucky. next time tell your buddy to swerve.
btw if your quarter panels are actually damaged and/or or the reinforcement bar. you might want to start looking for a new car.

looks like they are ok.. but i agree with teg. make sure they check that out.. you wouldnt wanna replace, bumper and trunk only to find out later they dont line up with your quarters..

all comes down to cost vs. worth. body parts from the quarters back + paint can get REALLY pricey..

Hopefully you guys are still friends after this. Make sure you take it to a good quality body shop and not some cheap, hole-in-the-wall place that will do worthless work. I think once your friend sees the estimates he will reconsider going through insurance. I'd say 1300-1600 for the TL (the trunk not lining up means the rear structure is now deformed, possibly expensive to fix), and 2500 for the Audi.

I just go rear ended also. Mine wasn't as bad, just need the bumper cover and foamy absorbers, and paint. $750. This is with OEM parts. You can save money w/ aftermarket parts but if it's the other guys fault, I think you deserve what was there before.
Since you've got trunk and other bent parts I'd easily add another $1000 at least for a new trunk. Also it looks like the bumper came off at the quarter panel. Check for damage to the quarter panel if is so then add another $500. Even if you don't see/feel damage to the quarter panel you can easily develop rust there if it created a hairline crack. Also probably need the reinforce beam.
I'd guess $2750 plus/minus $500
