TL Comparisons from Auto Show
 

Just got back from the Boston Auto Show. Just went to confirm in my own mind that I made the right decision when I bought a TL a few weeks ago. My conclusion is that the TL was the right choice for me. For whatever its worth here are my thoughts.

Two TLs at the show, Laguna green and silver. Overheard people nearby saying how they really like it. The Laguna looked sharp, but then I am biased http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/smile.gif. The CLs looked nice too.

BMW 3 series. Got in and banged my knee on the center console. Why is it so wide. Nice quality materials but poorly laid out buttons on the dash. Great paint job and nice colors though. In the few minutes I sat in it my first impression was that I felt kind of cramped in the leg and elbow area (I am 5' 10'', 160 lbs.). One 330i had these awesome rims (non-stock BBS?) with 20 or 30 hex head bolts around the circumference. Forgot to bring my camera or I would have taken a picture of these beauties.

The other cars? Well this post is too long already so let me say that I prefer the TL interior to most other cars including some real expensive ones. I'm not saying the TL materials are better, their not in many cases. And there is more plastic than I would like. But the general layout and appearance is IMHO almost perfect (this is without the nav).

Besides the BMW's only two other cars appealed to me (in the $36K or below class). The new Mercedes C class and the Audi A6. Both of these are beatiful inside and out. Gotta love that 3 pointed star hood ornament. Why can't Acura have a more sexy logo symbol?

I won't be at the car show until tomorrow night (avoiding all the early election-eve punditry...), but I remember having a similar experience last year.

I checked out the Japanese competition, and was really unimpressed with the I30 and ES300 vs. the TL. The TL is comparable in its overall look & feel to the much more expensive German cars. I remember being really unimpressed with the VW display - They'd removed the radio from the Passat, and it looked like sh*t.

Personally, I'm hoping to see the 2002 Explorer - I'm looking for one as a company car.
