![Question](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I am looking to purchase a '01 TL soon and have a question.
Since there is no "perfect" fog for the TL, I must move to installing a 3rd party fog.
Some of the problems with installing some 3rd party fogs is the problem with depth. I know the depth of the "fake fog hole" is around 1.5"? Please confirm!
However, if you cut out the "fake fog hole", how deep could you go (assuming you have custom-made bracket to hold the fog in place)? Can someone please let me know.
Thanks![](http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/smile.gif)

Mr TL, you can cut the frame? What does the frame look like there? Is it a piece of tubular steel (4" diameter)? Please describe this area for me. So are you saying (if you cut the fake fog out), you have could use a fog (up to 4" deep) before you hit steel?
ComputerGuy, YES, I am also on a quest to find the "perfect" fog for the TL. I have a few options (that I have looked at only when driving by the vehicles, no measurements have been taken):
- 98? Nissan Sentra SE Fog
- 97-98?? Mitu Diamonte Fog
I know you guys do not want to use Manuf Fogs because of the price, but PIAA and others are not the square type shape needed to fit the TL's fog hole. I still waiting for Snook to mold a custom bumper to fit a fog we can all agree on! I think this will be our saving grace![](http://www.acura-tl.com/ubb/smile.gif)

ok, standing in front off the car, there is a peice of flat metal sitting vertically beind each fog hole. they are around 3-5 mm thick. depending on the depth on your fogs, you might have to cut it. also depends on how much the 'bulging' bugs you
id say, you have a GOOD 1 inch of space behind the fog hole without cutting the metal

Actually, you shouldn't have to cut anything. And here's why....I just cleared the front lights on Vic's TL the other day along with doing his grill....when I took off the bumper, the shop that had installed his fog lights did an EXCELLENT job installing his fog lights. That piece of "vertical metal" that is back there...what they did was attach a heavy guage stainless steel "L" braket to the side of it and attached the fog lights to it. It was a really nice job and pretty simple to do!

thats a very good alternative. ive considered it. i think vdo told me he did that. but still, if the fogs are big, making that vertical metal will keep the lights from extruding

I am presently getting ready to install PIAA 940 foglights/driving lights on my 2001 TL. Has anyone else attempted this installation? The 940 comes closest to the odd-shaped trapezoidal hole that is molded into the bumpers on each side. Thanks for any help or suggestions you can offer.

IMO, I think the lamp looks a bit clunky with the two-tone design. But as far as the shape, it could fit.
