Tint in Toronto

I'm getting my windows tinted, does anyone have any advice where to go in Toronto?

Also, I'm familiar with the laws in the US about tinting but I can't find anything about it here in Toronto.

Anyone know whats the deal with that?

Go to FX Auto. http://www.fxauto.com

As for tinting, it must be at least 35% for front windows, the back windows and windshield can be anything. No tint on front windshield.

Thanks for the link. Do you know these guys? They do a good job? I was thinking of going to Tint King, though I haven't heard anything one way or the other about them, just that they've been in business for a long time, since i was a kid.

I'm gonna give these guys a call in any event, because I want to see what they want to charge to install a spoiler, maybe clear the corners as well.

I've heard bad things about Tint King. So it's best to go with personal references.

This is the contact that I have (416) 438-4155. The place is called LA Detail. They did my friends TL and IS300 and it was a good job.

Hey Laurel, I need to get my car tinted too! I'm probably going over the next few weeks so let me know if you want to go together (maybe we might be able to swing a better deal since they'd be crying for business during these cold months)

If your interested, you can email me at omyhead@hotmail.com

The three of us should all go together. Best to do it on a Friday, for me, though any day is ok. Let me know when you guys can go, the three of us will go together to the FX Auto place. OK?

Do you know if the FX Auto Place is any good? Does anyone have any personally experience with them?

LA Detail is around Midland and Lawrence in Scarborough.

Laurel and Tatewaki, can you send me your emails so that we can coordinate this? omyhead@hotmail.com

Laurel, do you mean Friday after work or during the day? I have work, so the only time that I'm available is after work or on the weekends (preferably the weekends).

Is it really wise to tint your car when the avg temp outside is -15C ?

Don't forget the glue they use is a liquid and has to dry/cure properly for the tint to set.

I'll be doing mine this spring/summer.

That's a good question TLS. I have no idea so if anyone out there knows anything, please let us know... Don't want a tint job that will start peeling because it was done in the winter.

Damn Canadian weather... it's been so cold lately!!

the colder, the longer it takes to cure, don't roll down windows, clean, etc. I had mine done when it was like 40-50 degrees. He told me 3 days should be fine. I waited a week.

Does anyone care about the different types of tint ? Or is that all BS ?
From what I understand, the cheap stuff you can buy in an autoparts store is just a piece of film that is sprayed with a dye. This is why it will fade after a few years and why most '83 Toyota's out there have that lovely purple look. It's also very prone to bubbles.
The next grade up is actually some kind of a wooven blend of some stuff that water can actually go through. I think it had something to do with aluminum (maybe just the naming). And last, there is some titanium stuff that makes the tinted window look more like glass. The last two are not suppose to bubble or fade, but with all different cars, care and conditions, it varies.

Curious to see if anyone's heard this b4.

Anyway, happy with mine so far. Was very surprised that it was easy to see through at night (from inside looking out).
Eitherway, I got the 2nd level tint (20%)

Your tint job looks amazing. Where in NY did you get it done?

As for the different qualities, I'm a sucker for the sales pitch, and live my life by the motto "If you're gonna be a bear, you might as well be a grizzly bear" so I usually only buy the best.

Cannon Ball Run....right ? (pickup truck rips up the trees).

The guy is on Long Island. Route 110, way way way South (almost in the water). I'll see if I can dig up the details (my receipt).
I think they do all Helms Mercedes and stuff like that. A few hundred cars a week if I recall our conversation.
Prices off the top of my head were $150 for level 1, $200 for level 2 and $250 for the Titanium stuff.
I left the car there for like 3-4 hours.

it's about time ...

Tatewaki & TLS RULZ,

It's about time you got your cars tinted! Hey ... TLS -- you've got the Inspire sunshade -- wasn't that the reason why you didn't go with the tint???

As for me, I went 20% sides & back. IMHO, it looks a little weird from the outside to have 2 different shades of tint. My $0.02 on that. BTW, if an officer wanted to ticket you, they'd have to pull out a photometer to determine the tint, right?

I got my first S with the moonroof visor, and I loved it. When I got my second, it came without one... and I think it looks better this way!

Not trying to break up your sale- plenty of people I know love the visor. I just think it looks cleaner without.
