Timing Belt Service
Hey guys, now that I've reached the 140k mile mark I've decided that my timing belt is well overdue. I've been following a lot of the DIYs created by the community here and have become addicted to working on my car. So, I've decided to tackle the timing belt DIY over the upcoming labor day weekend.
After doing some reading on the forum, I created a list of parts and was wondering if anyone could confirm that I'm ordering the right things before I spent $400 plus. If there is anything else you would recommend I change while I'm replacing the timing belt please let me know.
Also, where can I purchase the shop manual for my car?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

Might want to replace the cam and crank seals. My cam seals were weeping when I opened it up (92k miles on a 99TL). That will require pulling the cam gears, however.

The 5 parts (timing belt, water pump, idler pulley, tensioner pulley, tensioner) come in the Aisin TKH-001 kit with oem parts for around $220. This is what I got. I also changed the serpentine belt and its tensioner, power steering belt, crankshaft seal and crankshaft position sensor.

Can you explain how to remove the bolts from the cam gears? How did you hold them down to break loose the stubborn bolts?
#5
if the cam seals are not leaking= dont mess with them

I recently did my timing belt not even a month ago, I took it over to Hamilton Honda in Jersey where they did a exceptional job and for the price it was well worth it, the overall price with tax and labor was less than 500. I know that with the package it included a new timing belt, new water pump, new tensioner and new drive belts and fluid. When they did the job they told me that its not a must that you change the tensioner but if there is wear that it is highly recommended so since your already doing the job i would add that to the list if that helps your answer. Good luck with the job.
