Time for a trade?
Well my 3rd transmission went out this past Friday and I have a TSX as a loaner.
The TSX is really growing on me and im thinking about making the trade
A good deal on a 6spd TL would be nice though.
This 3rd transmission is bringing me to this decision whether to trade or not, my car has 78k as of right now. I was wondering if anyone besides Kris has gotten a transmission recently that hasn't broken?

I've been going on my new tranny for over a year now... probably coming close to 20,000km on the nwe tranny..
I was considering trading it in for a TSX, However we all know the 2.2LTurbo is going into the next TSX, with the very good possibility SH-AWD will join it. I would kick my self if I was to get a TSX 6mt, then in a year the come out wih a 270-300hp Turbo engine (meaning a ton of aftermarket possibilities once Hondata does a flach to increase the boost pressure) with SH-AWD 6mt.. It would be like buying a 2003 Eclipse... "hey is that the one with the 3.8L engine pushing 280hp?" ..."No.. this is the generation before that one ..."
I say wait a year or two for the new TSX to become used.. The are rumors of it coming in a coupe, sedan and convertiable aswell.. I can't see Acura less than 250hp 250 ft/lb in the next TSX... the power difference along with the all-wheel-drive feature should be able to convince you to keep the olde TL for another couple of seasons..
And just a side note : what I'm doing to help aleivate the urge of going too fast in my TL.. I got my bike licence last weekend!!!

But if it's just a mount that's broken, I wouldn't bother fixing it. No point in spending the $$$.

it sounds like there is a broken mount and not a tranny problem, well not the typical tranny problem..
Kris (Fsttyms1) has been doing all kinds of this stuff with his car recently and he has expained how to Change Motor and Tranny mounts yourself. I believe it is as simple as:
- jack up the tranny silghtly with a car jack (don't lift the car, just go under the tranny, it will aleviate the weight on the mounts)
-Now with the mounts lifted, unmount them and install the new ones. Kris said it is really self explanitory once you actually see it.
Either way, my advice, IF IT ISN'T WARRANTY, GET YOUR BABY BACK FROM THE STEALERSHIP. A local Mechanic wouldn't charge as much as Acura would, mind you they might try something if your tranny ended up going in the future, "it broke because we(the dealership) didn't replace the mount!!" I've heard much more extravagant stories from a dealership, this wouldn't be much of a strech.

Thank you for your input residual and the information on the mounts but im confused on this whole situation, my friend that works in the parts department at my dealership told me a transmission came in for my car thursday. I just talked to the guy today and he said it was a mount, but how could the mount cause the whole tranny to fail? It is under warranty and im only paying for the 2 mounts, which that grand total is only 134$. So I guess it's still a good deal since I dont have to pay for labor.
The car is a paper weight though so it has to be done if that's what they say.

Well, getting back to your original question, assuming you get the transmission replaced I don't think you are going to like the TSX as a former TL driver.
Don't get me wrong, TSX is a great Acura for the money, but it's a step down from the TL as far as performance and the ride goes. I had an '06 TSX loaner for a day and there's still no comparison between that and my '02 TL as far as the experience goes. In my humble opinion, going to a TSX would be a noticeable step down as you drove it down the freeway. It's noisier at higher revs, not as isolated in the cabin, and doesn't pull like you are used to...and all for good reason, it's a 4 banger. You're used to a V6. Test drive before you decide.

^ Yeah I know what you mean, it's a quick car and with simple bolt ons/6spd will put a hurting on the TL but it has no getup and go and I hate that! The TSX is alot of fun though, I had a good time with it the past week but im starting to miss my car. Im just going to try and fin da 05TL 6spd and if that doesnt work out then i'll be sticking it out with the TL.

We had a misscomucation I guess, they did replace the transmission aswell as the mounts, I paid 176$ for both mounts and a oil change.
I asked the guy how should I break it in but he told me get onto the freeway and open it up make shure it works, I dont like that! Last time I just wouldnt drive over 3k for about 700 miles but I guess that didnt help either.
