Well, perhaps on level roads, however...

"Drivers will save gas by using cruise control. Cruise control works to keep the speed constant regardless of road conditions. Cruise control helps fuel efficiency on a level road. But your car can actually use more gas going up hills because the cruise control causes the transmission to shift into passing gear. A driver that monitors the speed and conditions of the road can actually use less gas than can a driver that depends on cruise control alone. "

I have over 19,000 miles on my TLS now and I've never gotten worse than 25 mpg for a tank with a mix of city/highway driving. Cruising on the highway at speeds from 70 to 85, I almost always have the AC on and I've never gotten worse than 28-29 and have gotten as high as 33 here and there. In the city, I usually get around 22-23 mpg. I would describe myself as a sporting driver who enjoys really opening her (my car that is) up when the circumstances are right.

EricL--boy was that a mouthful!

Having said that, I couldn't agree with you more; that's why my mileage reading was based on a combo of city/hwy driving using the entire tank of gas. However, as you pointed out even this would be difficult to compare since who's to say what the mixture was, i.e., how much of the driving was at freeway speeds and how much of it was at city speeds? Lots of mechanical and environmental factors can affect gas mileage also. And let's not forget mileage can be affected by the alignment of the planets...

Tony

P.S.: Of course I was just kidding about the last factor...then again, I wonder if solar flares can temporarily affect the electronics of a vehicle, specifically the one that controls engine management...if I'm not mistaken, as a matter of fact I heard that there was one just a few days ago...

I'm experiencing much better than expected. I'm averaging about 24 MPG combined (mostly in auto D5) and on two separate 200 mile highway trips, I actually averaged just under 30 MPG (average speed 65-75 MPH). I'm using Mobil 93 Octane. I have 6600 miles on my odometer. This MPG discussion is interesting because I have seen numbers all over the place and some members reporting pretty low MPG. I'm not sure whether the varying MPG numbers that have been posted are a result of regional terrain, type of gas, octane or driving habits, but I wanted to share my experience.

I just got back from a 700 mile roundtrip with 4 Large Adults and trunk filled with luggage. I drove to Texarkana from Waco(normally a 4hr&30" trip. I drove it in 3hrs&45 minutes Speed 85, 90 and twice 100mph with AC on. I got 28.1 mpg and I think that is execellet!! I love my TL tye S. I previously had a Z28 comaro 6spd. and have owned two 5.0 Liter mustang 5 spds. and also owned a corvette. The TL tpe s will really "Cook". Great driving and wonderful acceleration and performance for the money!!

In my case, after only about 2300Km or 1430mi on my TLP pure 100% city driving 11.5 L/100Km or 20.455 mpg. Not bad.
