For those who have chromed out shift plate

I am wondering how I can take out the shift plate so that I can chrome it out. Where do I go about prying the thing out?? Is there a specific place where I have to start prying??

A followup question:

Is there a glare during sunny days that makes it too shiny? And does the final outcome make it look better than stock?

Yeah with the sunroof open and the sun directly above, it is a little bright, but ive learned to "tune it out" no problem and its tottaly worth it.

I couldent get it off without sticking a small screwdriver in the 4 clips (2 on each side) to release the plate....

I immersed the shift plate in paint thinner overnight and it didn't remove the coating at all. Am I supposed to use something other than paint thinner? I thought that's what was suggested. And yes, I have a '99TL.

check it out if you want to know the difference between the chrome look and regular dull look. Don't use paint thinner, get the paint remover.....thinner didn't do crap for me after leaving it soaked for 2 hrs.

I could have sworn someone at some point in time said to use paint thinner! But I'll try again with paint remover or graffiti remover next time

99TL have paint over the org chrome shift plate. Just get paint remover and remove this paint. If you have 00-03. find a place that does gold/chrome plating.

TL_99,

I have not removed the paint, but I have pulled out the shift plate.
Just grab it on the corners and wiggle it off. No screw driver needed!

I did mine a few weeks ago. I don't have a pic of it installed, but I will take some this weekend. I have also included in the pic, the graffitti remover I used. Picked it up at Home Depot for 5 bucks. Sprayed it on, and washed it off in the sink a minute later. It looks great in the car. The glare sometimes is annoying when the windows and sunroof are open, but the compliments I recieve on it are more then woth it.
