Thinking of purchasing a 02/03 TL-S.

Good evening members. How is everybody doing today? Just recently my Volvo was totalled and I received a check from the lady's insurance, since it was her fault.

I'm interested in purchasing a vehicle, I was looking at the 2002/03 TL-S fully loaded with navigation. I know that the CL/TL had a lot of problems with reference to the transmission problems.

My question is, what are some other things that I should look out for. Were there any part recalls, electrical problems, etc etc? Any input is appreciated.

I bought a 2003 TLS new and still love it. I've got 45,000 miles on it now.

The only other mechanical issue I am aware of is you can end up needing the rotors turned. Dealer did mine under warranty when I noticed the car shaking when braking. I had a power steering fluid resevoir replaced and also had the window trim painted. It was peeling. All under warranty.

The Acura Dealer in Middleton WI is great to work with. It's fun to drive and every couple of weeks, I hear someone say: "nice car" or "sweet ride" or something like that. I'm very happy with it.

Thanks for the reply guys. I'm really more leaning towards an European based vehicle. However, the Acura does provide a lot of great features that many other cars lack today.

We'll see what goes...

Unless you're talking about a new European vehicle, I'd beware. I'm currently shopping for a replacement for my 99 Accord, and I've been shopping new TL, new TSX, TL-S/CL-S, C-class, E-class, 3-series, and Volvo. Thus far, even on slightly used European cars I haven't been able to find one without one or more nagging little problems. I understand they're all still under warranty and a lot have free maintenance -- but I'm simply not buying a car I have to repeatedly have worked on. I can deal with little rattles and squeaks from Acuras, but not excessive vibration (C320), no sound from Bose system (E320), falling headliner (325i), loose interior pieces (330i), etc. I have found in European cars. Ehhh they were all great fun to drive but just seem too much hassle for my tastes.

Good luck, though! Buy what makes you happy -- what's right for me isn't right for everyone.

If I can offer you a piece of advice, do not buy a Volvo car. I had a '97 Volvo 850 GLT and it only had 70K miles on it. Really low miles merely bc the car was in the shop soo much.

Just after the car was driveable and got rid of all the problems, not even 1 yr later the lady hits me from the back totalling me vehicle.

I was only shopping the S60 and have decided against it for a couple of reasons:

1) The IIHS crash test rating wasn't what I expected. No best pick?!

2) The interior is blah.

I'm thinking that the most likely replacement for my aging 99 Accord will be the TSX. I already have an AV6 coupe if I want V6 power, and the TSX is fun to drive.

I bought my 02 NBP TLS knowing full well about the tranny problems, I havn't had any issues so far w/ 34k miles and the oil jet kit.

BTW I am a fanatic for German cars my family has 3 Mercedes right now and I went with the Acura anyways, as long as it is german or japanese your ok. IMO
