Thinking of getting a TL.
Lost the accord to a flood in florida so now I am on the market for a new car. What are some pros and cons of a tl? I am currently looking at a 2000 white no navigation. Any tips would be appreciated thanx!

The TL would be a great improvement over your old accord. But you MUST get the navi or else you are going to regret it later on. In case you don't know, we can watch dvds from the navi screen with a little modification.

well with or w/o navi is fine with me. I live here houston and I don't take my car out on trips much. Mostly it's interstate travel so it's no big deal. With the Acura navi you would need to pay a monthly fee so that sucks. With a BMW or similar gps system they run off of cds where u can buy per state. It's up to you, but I personally would save the extra thousand or so.
P.S. Acura's gps screen is a little small compared to the new monitors out so you may just decide to put in a larger and sharper monitor.

There is no monthly fee for using the Acura Navi. The '99's had a hard drive (that hold a region of the country...you can buy extra drives on ebay) and 2000+ models have a DVD map disk (the entire US). You will have to pay to upgrade to the current map data if you want to, but there is no monthly fee.
Of the navigation systems I've seen the sceen in th TL is located best...in general, the layout of the TL's interior and cockpit is near perfect (once you get used to not knocking the power window lock switch ).

I'm guessing the "fee" he's referring to is Onstar (?)

Ken...yeh, the Onstar thing you have to pay for after 1 or 2 years I think it is (if you buy the car new)...if you buy used you'll probably have to pay from the start if you want that. Onstar seems a little expencive to me for what you get....

Yeah the navigation doesnt seem to be a problem to me since I got a in dash tv out of my old car. Is it true the stock cd player doesn't play burnt cds on the 2000 model? Was also wondering how yall like the triptronic tranny? thanx

"Tiptronic" AKA Sportshift, is good. It wont hold 1st gear however. One thing the RSX has over the TL/CL/Prelude sportshift program.
Burned CD's shouldnt be a problem, I don't know of anyone with any issues with it.

NAVI
I didn't get the NAVI and I don't regret it one bit.
If you are buying a TL-P, take the cash you save and do some mods to get an extra 40 HP. To me, speed is a lot more important than being able to watch a DVD in my car.
I can watch a DVD at home on my Big-Screen with a beer in my hand...
Again, to each his own, but I have had my car almost 3 months and can only think of one time where I could have used NAVI.
I guess I'm old school, but a $5 map works pretty well if needed.

Really!?!? How!?!? :wow: :wow: :wow: I wished I could watch actual DVDs on the navi screen but didn't know it was actually possible. Please tell me how!

That thread is from 2001 so if you have time, read through it all and you should have a pretty good understanding of how to get it done.
Or if someone is kind enough to give you a cliff note version of it.

HAHAHA..... That is 2 funny... Im in Northern NJ and knock on wood I still have mine...
Whenever go the mall or go anywhere always park your car facing the isle. That way it will be a lot harder for them to steal it since cars will be constantly passing...
