The SS mode is a bit faster because you can select when you want to shift. Depending on who you're racing and at what speed your racing (off the line, on the go) you can use SS mode to be more efficient. For instance, if you're racing from 90 km/h and you both floor it, if you leave the car in Auto, the car will only choose 3rd gear to accelerate you, which will probably result in you losing. However, if you put it in SS mode, shift to 2nd gear, making the rpm's go to about 4500 RPM, then you floor it, the momentum you gain from 2nd gear and into 3rd, will make the other guy's mouth drop, assuming you're not racing anything out of your league. You have to know when to use SS mode, and when not to. I generally always switch into SS mode if I see a guy wanting to race me. Remember never to race someone you know will smoke you, it makes you pissed off for the rest of the day.

But again, you have to know during each situation what would work better for you. But in 90% of cases, SS mode is better.

The gate shift. Put the gear shift all the way to gear one, then gear it to gear 2 when it's time, and so on....

if you don't want that, then leave the car in SS mode off the line, and then when it's time to gear to 3rd gear, at around 110 km/h or 65 MPH, then gear up. If you forget to gear up and hit the rev limiter, you lose a lot of time...make sure not to do that.

depends what else you're trying to do. Watch out for as*holes on the road who try to side swipe your car when you pull in front of you. I had a guy in an RSX-S who I was racing. He had a 6 speed manual. Anyways, I was able to pull ahead at about 100 km/h and when he saw me pulling ahead, he tried to push me into on coming traffic. Luckily, I kept pushing the gas, and flew by him.

In general though, when you're racing off the line, shut off the A/C, try not to have extra weight in the car (race alone if possible), and turn the VSA off. This way, the engine has no control over your amount of spinning.....

oh yah one more thing....kick the hell out of the little civics who think they can smoke you!!!
