Post Is Teflon Paint Guard Any Good?

Hi Gang,

I'll be taking delivery of my brand new 2002 TL-S/Navi from my dealer in 2-3 weeks (paid approx. $32k for it).

He's offering the Hendrick Autoguard Teflon coating on the paint. It requires the application of a "Renewer" twice a year. Does anyone have any experience with this product?

They also offer a leather conditioner treatment. As far as I can tell, off-the-shelf products do just as well as these expensive treatments.

The whole works costs about $500. Is this a sound investment or just another gimmick to make another buck off of the buyer?

At $100 a pop at the local dealership, I can get the car detailed. So, $500 = 5 detailing sessions. If I do it once a year (and wax every 6 months), won't I achieve the same quality for a lot less?

Thumbs down

im sorry if i sound all pessimistic, DONT DO IT~ just another quick buck, as i say!
dealers will try to make money even off rust proofing your car,(guess what the rust proofing means, the paint on your car!)do it yourself, just know how to use all the car detailing products! use terry towels, no other fabric to wipe your car, no automatic car wash, go to a barnes and nobles ( or any other book store) find a book on car detailing find a seat take alot of notes! thas what i did, all for free info, that'll save $500, not bad, use that $500 for mods and take good care of your tl!
p.s. $100 a pop sounds too much!
even day care centers charge less for having a kid stay there in one day(maybe even one week)!

Teflon coating in wax is as BS as the claims Slick-50 made. Teflon plating of any surface requires a near clean room environment. NASA has had problems using PTFE coatings on the space shuttle, and there budget is pretty fat.

Save your money and just use a good polish like Zaino or Finish First.

Same here. I worked in the business. That Teflon crap is a scam. Just like the Scothguard interior treament that gets $300.00. All out of a $4.00 can.
