A/T cooler
I used to have this on my 4 Runner and I believe it works as my friend (mechanic) said that the 4 Runner is pretty heavy and if I happens to have a heavy load that needs to be towed, it will cool down the tranny considerably.
Now that a lot of TL owners here are affraid of loosing their tranny, I asked my friend again regarding this and he said it is a good thing to have than not to have. I'm thinking about getting one since it's really cheap and probably an hour job. Does anyone here have one or experiences that they would like to share?

I asked my dealer about this a year ago and he said better not install it as it may void the mfg warranty. He said the warranty will cover should the transmission fail within the factory 100km warranty.
Interestingly, Honda seems to be aware of TL tranny problems reported by some members on this board. The 2003 V-6 Accords will be using TL 5spd tranmissions with heat exchangers added to improve durability. http://www.acura-tl.com/forum/showth...threadid=44351

I don't see how adding a transmission cooler could hurt, just make sure that when you put it on that you add more ATF fluid to the system to fill up the new lines and cooler. I'd be interested to do this as well...
Any particular one you are looking at silver03TL ?

The prices on the A/T coolers are not very expensive. I remember putting one on my 4 Runner for about $80 including installation. They would go in front of the radiator and it's actually pretty easy to install.

Can not be done, or at least not easily... I have a 2000 and I went out and bought the kit, took my bumper off, jacked the car up and pulled out my helm. The helm diagram is for the 1999 transmission, so when you start looking for hoses and stuff they dont exist. Well to make a long story short, I couldnt find a line to tap into to hook up the cooler, called the dealer, they said it should be right there, so i drove over and said SHOW ME!, they looked and said "Well ****, it was right there on 99's" Guess you cant do it. I then went back home and started looking some more, finally figured out that there was a line, but basically it hooked up way back in a part of the trans that you cant get to, so basically you cant do crap, there design doesnt allow it. The person that posted it did it on their accord... To the best of my knowelge, no 2000 or up TL owner has installed one

the problem is, THERE ARE NO INSTRUCTIONS, i dont think it can be done without droping the trans, or ripping out the engine... On the trans there is pretty much 4 openings, the drain bolt, the fill bolt, and 1 rubber hose that enters in the very back part of the trans, unreachable from above, not sure about below, and that enter again near the yp of the trans... So you would have to get ride of that tube completely, and then hook up 2 6 foot pieces of tube and run them to the fron of the radiator, and into a cooler, it would be possible IF you could replace that one line with 2, but i dont think anyone here is going to be abletoo, unless they got a hook up at a dealer and figure out how to get to it.

The guy was full of BS. They can not void your warranty on a tranny cooler. It protects the tranny better. My dealers here recommend one.

yeah if you have a 99 you should be able to do it, there are no kits specific for our cars.. go to pep boys and just buy a generic kit with a couple extra parts like longer hoses and stuff. Get everything for under 50 bucks... Not a big deal.
if you have a 2000 or up change your fluid, I do it at least every 10000 miles. maybe more often if i feel like it. it only cost 4 or 5 bucks
