Is it supposed to be so hard to buff meguiars #26 out?

I washed the car yesterday, it ended up taking a really long time and a lot of effort to get meguairs #26 (i think it was mirror finish) wax off the car. Is it supposed to be that hard? The care detailing guide on autopia links to a meguiars #26 wax that looks like the one I used (not at home right now, can't check to see if it is) but describes it as easy to take off. I also left some wierd swirls/lines on the car that I can't seem to buff out. Any tips?

I always use no. 26, and it always comes off with ease for me, but I wax often, so it makes the job much easier. When was the last time you waxed? If you don't do it often, it'll be much harder to buff the wax off than if you did. Meguiars is the best wax you can buy in my opinion, I'd never use anything else, including zaino (although it technically isn't a wax) Did you prep the finish first, like with a polish? That usually makes the job easier as well.

Meguiar is the $hit!!! That thing shines, gloss, and it's smooth. If it's hard to remove, you're using TOO much of it. It's suppose to be a thin layer. A couple of drops will do the job for the 2 x 2 ft area.

Thin coats. The thicker you put it on, the longer it takes to dry and the harder it is to take off.

Hey, nsxnext: who did your Rustoleum job on the Y pipe, looks nice...preventative or the result of some rust starting?

I did it. Combination of rust preventative and the desire to hide that nasty looking Y pipe.

Hmm, I didn't polish before hand, just washed the car, and I also hadn't waxed in a long time (I think the last wax would have been some spray wax from a car wash, if that even counts), plus I think I also used way too much wax, that might have been the problem. I'll try with a lot less next time and see if it makes a difference.

Exclamation

I used to have the same problem. I would wax the entire car before removing the excess. This would take alot of "elbow grease". Be sure to do one section at a time.
