Sunroof Squeaks Service Bulletin

The little bit of squeak that my closed sunroof made didn't really bother me all that much, but I did feel that this is a new car, and it shouldn't squeak. I read about the service bulletin in the TL Forum, and went to my dealer and told them I wanted the squeak repaired and that there was a service bulletin. Much to my surprise, they said "yep, we'll take care of it" ...and what they did was install a very thin and narrow strip of clear mylar plastic tape on the inside edge of the painted opening area. This fix worked. No squeaks what-so-ever.

Had two other new car problems fixed...rear window defroger didn't work, a wire in rear pillar was not connected. Right xenon headlight wouldn't always light...put on new ballast unit...works great now.

Angry

I had that done about 2-3 months ago... so far its ok. It is quieter, bt yeah, they did a nasty job installing it - including grease stains on the carpet...

We'll see...

Plus, is anyone's sunroof completely flush with the roof of their car? I would say mine sticks out about 1/16 to 1/8 above the roof line of the car.

Looking at other cars (not TL's) their seems much more flush. Even my old Taurus was pretty well flush.

Anyone ever encounter this?

I noticed the rear corners of my moonroof stick up further than my eye indicates they should. I'm glad I'm not alone in thinking that.

I had the tape installed. The first time I tilted the moonroof up, the tape came up. I pulled the tape in, then tried to open the moonroof, and it got stuck!!!! This doesn't appear to be the best solution to the problem.

Sounds like they really hose up the application of it! Holy crap, I mean its a clear adhesive on one side on smooth plastic film!

You know what is funny? I am so paranoid that I actually read the service bulletin and did the prep work before I drove out to the dealer. Im glad I did, I got a lot of sand, dirt and crud that was collected there, and cleaned it off with alcohol.

I really dont trust Tim Smith Acura here in FWB. They have HORRIBLE customer service. I am dissapointed with Acura because of them.

you can keep it from happening if once and awhile you put some type of rubber dressing (i like 303) on the rubber seal of the moonroof. i do it like 1-2 times a year and mine is always perfectly quiet!

spl1011-

On the sunroof fit problem. Mine fits worse than any other Honda/Acura I've had. Particularly on the left passenger rear.

It is very noticeable. I've noticed some fit well, others look like mine.

You are not alone......

With my Accord, the Honda dealer had a lubricant they put on the moonroof gasket a couple of times a year and it took care of it. That's what I expected when I went to Acura for my last service and mentioned the squeak. Looks like they tried to get too fancy and are causing more problems!
