Suggestions on aftermarket alarms

Howdy all

Been a while since I posted, so thought I might as well get one out there.

I've spent a bit of time looking through past threads on alarm suggestions but I'd like to get some feedback from people who actually have 'em if at all possible.

What I'm looking for is what you could call a "top of the line" 2 way remote starter with alarm. I've looked through several brands from Viper to Python to Clifford. They all seem to have great products, but I'm curious to know which might be the best of the bunch? Which would be best at preventing the theft of my car? Which has the best and most useful features?

I've seen other systems which include features like cameras you can place around your vehicle and if someone becomes a little too friendly with your car the cameras will activate and send a picture of the person to your 2-way remote. Anyone have experience with 'em to know if those are of any use?

With the sort of things I'd like to do to my next car I don't want to cheap out on the alarm so unless it's absolutely ridiculous, price isn't a factor here.

Now I know installation matters as much (if not moreso) than the actual unit itself, and I'll be getting qualified people to handle that. The only trick now is finding the cream of the crop

So... suggestions?

you basically just looked at the same company 3 times
dei makes python, viper, and clifford. and they're all basically the same.

i would only go with dei or compustar.
look into compustar if youre looking for something a little different with a lot more potential then a comparable dei system and doesn't have to follow all the rules that dei does.

i agree anything by directed is the shit.
i just got the new viper 5901 and i love it. i put in a proximity sensor so if some1 gets close my 2 way goes off, and i put in the window kit so i can lower the windows with the remote and when u lock the car it rolls them up. the best part of the window kit is it makes all ur windows auto up and down.

although this is true. do you really think a thief would go all out for a tl?
i'm more afraid of the dumb highschooler who wants to break in and jack my speakers or my radar detector.

Its atleast worth knowing the status of your car (w/a 2way pager) to purchase one. I always like to know whats going on with my car especially when parked on the street.

Right now i haven't installed an alarm yet and i have to run out to check on the tl all the time just because i get worried.

and if somebody hit you, you could run out there and make sure you get their insurance info or if somebody shattered your window and was halfway through hotwiring your car for some reason or another you could be out there.

my 2cents

i think it helps with the actual theft of the car (spooks them off).. but the stuff inside.. people can bust in and grab stuff and run before you pulled your 2 way out you pocket!

so i guess in areas it would be useful.. i've just always had open areas to park my car for school and work over the years i suppose..

that nobody gets their shit jacked btw

Oh I know anything's possible there, but it doesn't hurt to try and be as well protected and prepared as possible though.

I'm going to want to drop some nice things in my car and it'll feel good to be able to park my car somewhere and leave it knowing that if anything were to happen I'll be alerted right away on the 2-way remote.

I'm really wondering though if the systems I've seen which incorporate cameras are any good or not. My guess is not as I haven't heard too much about 'em.

Anyways, anyone want to suggest particular models they feel are heads over heels above the rest? Or are most of them very similar when you get to the upper echelon of alarms?

I wouldn't recommend compustar....they have issues after 1-2 years.

I had my antenna replaced because sometimes the car woudn't lock/unlock.

I had my remote replaced because it started blanking out.

Now I have issues where the car sometimes doesn't start then using remote starter...I have to try 2-3 times...its annoying.

I would recommend Viper, I know someone using it for years and never had issues.

My issue could be isolated but I wouldn't buy Copustar again.

i had a compustar on my last car and have recommended them to all my friends who love them. Since then, 8 of my friends have also purchased them and love them w/no issues.

actually one of them w/an e36 m3 5spd had some problems with the remote start but the dealer near my parent's house gave them all a lifetime warranty so he fixed it and no issues since.
