Post Stupid question about sportshift...

I was wondering if there was any difference in performance or mechanics if you use the left + - gate opposed to keeping the shifter in the main gate and shifting thru 1, 2, D3, D4, etc.

My 97 doesnt have the sportshift feature but I sometimes shift in between gears for engine braking. Is this something that I should NOT be doing because I don't have sportshift, or does it not make any difference at all?

The TL manual says that shifting with the sportshift is faster than the regular automatic by about 10%. Also, in sportshift mode, the software is programmed to hold the gear chosen unless it damages the transmission.

But shifting between the gears, I have not done it...

Thumbs up

I've run 1. to .2 seconds faster at the track (1/4) with SS over Auto.

People on this forum used to say that driving in D4 was faster, but it always feels faster in SS. Thanks for the numbers..

Also, you know sometimes when you're in drive, you start out slow but then change your mind and want to go fast? There is a half-second LAG then the car roars up and LURCHES? I hate that. In SS it never does that.
