stripped oil pan threads
so i thought i was going to be a good day, wake up early change the oil in my baby,, autozone special $8.99 5 quarts of oil and a filter!, all is gpoing good till i put back in the drain plug and realize i overtightened it and it stripped the female end. acura parts says the only way to fix it right is to get a new drain pan? any one else know of anything? he gave me an oversized drain plug for now, it goes in and pretthy much rethreads the female end but he said it can usually onyl be put in and taken out one time and i will need to change my pain by next oil change? any opinions guys???

For future reference, hand thread it until the drain bolt contacts the pan and then do 3/4 turn past that. I'd rather have a drop of oil on the pavement and do a quick tightening nudge the next day than overtighten and strip it.
I looooooove when these oil change places tighten it so hard that I have to smack the rachet with a hammer to break the bolt. I'd be curious to know how many actually do strip it and fix it without ever telling the customer.

a helicoil isnt a true fix. the best thing to do is to drop the oil pand and either have it retaped or replace it with a used or new one
Yes!
and i tried taking one off once that not even the impact gun would break free
(on a friends car who took it to one of those 15 min oil change places)
this is what his oil filter looked like it was put on so tight it got destroyed trying to get it off. we had to put screws into the top to hold the filter tool from spinning
