Strange sound, low idle and a few lights on...

So for the last few weeks my 2002 TL has been making a strange grinding/virating sound everytime i takeoff from a dead stop. It sounds worse when going up a hill.

just the other day my battery died and after charging it up my check engine light and TCS light is on.

Now whenever i bring my car to a stop it seems like my car wants to die and the idle goes down really low.

Does anyone have a clue to what the problem(s) could be. Please let me know.

Also if i took it to the dealer would they tell me whats wrong for free?

bad idle might = 02 sensor
grinding sound might = tranny going bad
go to the dealer (if u have a warranty) and tell them to check

how many miles are on your car? could be an EGR valve causing the bad idle.
go to a mech. u trust

the low idle is more than likely the IAC valve. it's happened to a bunch of people. if the car is under warranty, take it to the dealer and they'll fix it.

I dont have a warrenty....it has almost 90000 on the car.

The sound seens like its comming from the driverside wheel, thats why i think it might have something to do with the traction control.

anyone know a good place to take it near portland? Dont really want to take it to the dealer.

one time when me and my cuzzin was installing a CAI, he unplugged a thing from the throttle bottle...probably was a o2 sensor.....after installing the cari i started my car withought the o2 sensor in and the motor barely started up....and it was really low idle..

Yesterday my '02 Type S had a simular problem. In addition it would only shift gears in Manual Mode. Clear signs of tranny gone bad. I have 64K miles so I'm thinking I'm covered.

I took took to the a**holes at Rick Case Acura in Fort Lauderdale and as the advisor is starting the car to get the miles, he says that he is sure it's the IAC Valve and not the tranny. The guy didn't even drive the car!!

I told that M*********A to take my ******* car and give it the proper check. They gave me a loaner and said they would call me today.

I think they are trying to keep from having to change the tranny so they can charge me for the IAC Valve. Thoughts???

Regardless of tranny or egr, they will get paid for doing warranty on the tranny. Honda manufactor pays them. Maybe they're just some lazy ass peoples.

A year ago my friend had a type-s and he was complaining about some humming noise in the engine compartment at idle and the service guy just took the car in for a few days. When it was done, they have put in a new tranny, egr, and a few other stuff I cant recall of. It was quite a surprise. I guess it all depends on which dealer you go to.

Okay, here's what happened.....

I get a phone call form the dealer......low and behold the tranny is dead.....Go fucking figure!!

They are replacing the the tranny, and they said that I have a broken engine mount ($260). They also said I have a bad TPS sensor ($480). Not sure what that is, but I will do a search and see if I should let the dealer fix or find someone less expensive.

Dealer always tries to suck on the engine mounts whether it is broken or not. It is something hard to deny. I wish someone could set it up and nail them for fraudulent.

when thery replaced my transmission, they also replaced and engine/tranny mount i think they have done the same for nearly everyone that has taken it in for transmission.

TPS = throttle position sensor
