stolen airbags

my car was parked in front of my house as usual overnight, and this morning I found the driver's side rear window broken and both airbags stolen. Just wanted to let everyone know to be more careful. There are some sick people out there. Any suggestions on prevention in the future?

not alot of houses in NY have garages for example mine. we have a driveway but that hasnt stopped burglars before we've had 2 cars stolen from our driveway and were supposed to be in a nice neighborhood

Wow. I'm sorry to read about that. I had a couple of car radios stolen in New York many years ago so I know the feeling.

I'm almost afraid to ask but what will replacement units cost?

Do you have theft insurance?

Then I guess the alarm is your best option.

As mentioned by another poster- not all houses have garages, mine included. This was in my driveway. Apparently the factory alarm is worthless since it didn't go off. I would need a glass shatter sensor of some kind because the doors or hood weren't opened.

well alrams are so frequent in my neighborhood and most likely alot of neighborhoods in big cities alot of people dont pay attention. i mean lil kids playing ball and hitting a car by accident causes an alarm to go off. and when we sleep nothing wakes us up.

I hate to say it, but nice neighborhoods are usually were these assholes go to steal shit. My girl lives in a nice neighborhood in Queens and her TSX rims got stolen twice. Usually in nice neighborhoods you have less people out at night, cops don't patrol as hard...etc..etc. In my neighborhood its hard for a thief to jack my headlights when theres cops out all night trying to catch the guys selling drugs on my corner.

Reroute your ordinary household 120-volt power line... connect to door handle.

Sleep tight, knowing any asshole who dare tries to open your car will be found DOA.

My only recommendations would be an alarm with a pager feature placed near your night table, and parking under a street light, or as close to one as possible.

I think thats the best you can do given your situation.

Install a flood light or lights and direct it at where you park the car. A gaurd dog is not a bad idea either.

Sorry to hear that... I have a driver side airbag in my garage, it's black. Let me know if you need it.

Put a pitbull in the car at night when you go to sleep. Cleaning up poop in the morning but at least your stuff will still be there :-)

When I was younger I had a camero with good rims on it. I was parked in front my girlfriends apartment complex in stony brook ny. It was a few friends and I hanging out in the house. When we left at 4am I went to drive away and all four of my tires fell off. Cop told me that someone took the lugs off usually drive around a bit then come back and quickly take the rims.

I hear they get a lot of money for Airbags too. Kind of sucks that airbags could be removed so easily and undetected.

There was a club type thing that you could put on your steering wheel and lets say aim the handle down toward your radio. After a few seconds or something it would put voltage through it. So if they tried to touch the thing they would be in for a suprise. Don't think it's made anymore. I saw it someplace. Maybe on this site or on the net about a month or so ago.

These thefts can create a self feeding market. People will find out that the dealer prices are outrageous so they'll buy used parts, which they often don't realize are stolen.

I heard a story where a woman had the seats stolen from her Toyota Celica. She did not have theft coverage and the dealer prices for replacement seats were insane. So she searched the local ads and found a set that was a good match. After having the seats installed she discovered that she had actually bought her original seats back. She wore a very rare and unusual type of perfume and the replacement seats had that exact scent on them.

But even if you don't buy your original seats back the net effect can be the same. The stolen items actually create a market for their sale.

I say hook up two spy camera's in the car. Run it to the airbags, the car radio etc. When someone starts to move those things have it take snapshots of the person in the car. Then have a toy gun with confetti shoot and hte flag that drops has a middle finger :-)

It does really suck that we work so hard for things to have them stolen by the same guy we will probably be paying his SS, medicaid for in the future. So we get robbed twice.
