Stock tires are too narrow

The stock tires are way too narrow...they almost look like temp. spares from certain angles compared to the size of the car... is there any danger or is it even possible to put 235 tires ?? TIA

Mr. God...you obviously haven't frequented the wheels and tires forum that much. This has been a topic of discussion quite a bit. There are 2 problems with 235's...

First, our stock rims are only 6.5 wide.

Second, if you go with a larger wheel, and/or lower your car, you must be very careful with offset the wider the tire gets to avoid rubbing.

But, those two glitches aside, it can be done.

Personally, I agree. The 215's look quite wimpy. If we were rear wheel drive, I would put 245's in the back!

I just looked at your pictures and those aren't stock rims. What's the deal?

Also, the specs on those 235/45/17's call for 7.5 to 9 inch rims. What reputable tire shop would install tires on a rim an inch smaller than spec?

Not to say that I don't believe you.

I would love to put 235's on my stock rims. Then again, my TL-S was stolen a few days ago, so who knows where it is...

heh, i went back to stock after i bent two of the mille miglias driving through an unmarked ditch dug in the middle of 4 lane, newely paved street, and i still havnt gotten around to replacing the bent rims

and in terms of reputable... well... the shop i get my stuff done at is real world, they offer me their opinions on what works and what doesnt, unlike most of the "reputable" places that'll charge u an arm and a leg and then point at the book. real mechanics can tell u from real experience what to do and what not to do, and i tend to trust them over the other guys. even acura dealerships with their "no no, the rattle is supposed to be there" and "its ur fault the rotors are warped at 3k miles" rnt exactly reputable.

Point well taken. When you find someone you trust, you go with them.

Sorry to hear about your rim bending experience.
