Stock Rims for 2000TL Good Deal?

My Acura Dealership is offering to replace all 4 rims on my 2000TL for $500. The rims I currently have are ugly because of clearcoat problems. Earlier thread

Should I go through and get the stock rims for $500? I wasn't planning to get aftermarket rims so I can't compare prices for the stock rims with anything else. Does anyone have some suggestions? Get the stock or use the money on aftermarket rims?

$500 is that for new wheels or take offs. If it's for new wheels that's a good price. It's up to you if you would rather just save up some more cash and buy aftermarket.

thats not bad, but you can find basically new TSX rims for less than that and they look much better.

Go aftermarket or Type S wheels or even TSX wheels. Go with a set of 17s or 18s or even 19s. You will thank yourself for doing so.

IMO, make ur decision based on the kind of roads u have out there. u don't want to get 18's w/low profiles for example and damage your rims.

but if he goes with a different size he will also have to buy new tires....

look around at some aftermarket rims see if there is anything out there that you like.... if not take their deal. if there is you could probably find a better deal non oem

Thanks for the responses so far.

The rims are brand new from the factory. Where would I look for the TSX or Type S rims? The dealer (parts guy on the phone) once told me the Type S one's wouldn't fit. I'm in Hawaii so road conditions are pretty stable. I'm not going to drop my car or anything, right now I'm street parked with no garage access and didn't want to draw extra attention to my car with bling bling rims and stuff. Approximately how much are quality aftermarket rims?

Oh my God - what the hell did you do to your wheels.

- If you search ebay, you can get excellent deals on OEM rims.

Nothing, bought the car used.

Looking at Ebay, a lot of the OEM rims were being sold for ~$100 each rim. Add shipping to Hawaii, I thought that the $500 from the dealership for new rims would be around the same.

$500 and you dont get tires? personally i wouldnt do it, like other memebers said you can get type-s rims or tsx wheels for slightly more. or check wheelmax.com and wheelsnext.com , and just look for a nice 17 or 18 inch rim. 17inch if you want to keep stock quality ride and not draw a lot of attention. You're in hawaii though so im sure hula skirts and coconut bras will draw more attention than a TL =). Good luck and show us pics when you get the new wheels.

I have the stock tsx rims I want to sell. Tires and rims both - about 6000 miles on them. I live in Miami, FL. Email me at theprophet07@hotmail.com if interested. Looking for $500 OBO (not including shipping). I would prefer a local pickup

Thanks for the info. Wife's not going to be too happy with y'all now that I'm starting to research more expensive rims and tires. But anyway, can some one inform me on what exactly I need to know about the rims before I buy them? For example, I'm thinking of 17" ones, but what else should I look at (lug, nuts, etc...) I've read a few threads that I searched for to learn some things, but since I'm pretty new I don't recognize a lot of the terms. I really have no clue. Brands or model #s would be good too. I emailed all the people here selling TSX rims.

Thanks

BTW: Any change TSX rims would fit with my old tires?

if you currently have the stock 16 inch tire, then it will not fit 17inch rims. must be exact fit/size. also, since you're going to buy new tires, check them out as well. yo'ure in HI so you won't be needing all seasons. i heard about one good summer brand that almost never slips even when wet... i'll try to find it..

Okay found some info. Not that I know what it means exactly, but may be helpful for others.

Lug Pattern : TL = 5x114.3

Offset: +48mm offset

The bolt pattern or bolt circle is the diameter of an imaginary circle formed by the centers of the wheel lugs. Bolt patterns for the Acura TL are the five lugholes. A bolt circle of 5 x 114.3 would indicate a 5-lug pattern on a circle with a diameter of 114.3 mm. – 5 x 4.50 inches or 5 x 114.3mm

The offset of a wheel is the distance from its hub-mounting surface to the centerline of the wheel.

The offset can be one of three types.

1) Zero Offset - The hub-mounting surface is even with the centerline of the wheel.

2) Positive - The hub-mounting surface is toward the front or wheel side of the wheel. Positive offset wheels are generally found on front wheel drive cars and newer rear drive cars. This is the case with the Acura TL

3) Negative - The hub mounting surface is toward the back or brake side of the wheels centerline. "Deep dish" wheels are typically a negative offset.

If the offset of the wheel is not correct for the car, the handling can be adversely affected.

There is a dealer in california that has an ebay motors site. They are selling the A-Spec rims, which they say will also fit the 2G TL, for something like $900 for all 4. I'd get those if you could. They have it in sparkle silver too. Not sure if you want to go to 18" though, but they look hot.

yeah, if you gonna get stock rims, i highly recommend the type-s rims. i have 'em and they look so much better than the ones that came with my 2000. but i do recommend putting 225/50/17 tires on them instead of the stock 215/50/17 tire.

Need some advice.

Would the rims from this 2004 TSX fit on my 2000 tl without modifications?

Thanks
