steering wheel shakes

I just got tire balanced and asked the tech to hand torque the wheel, however, it's still shaking at around 80mph on freeway. Anyone experiences the same thing? I am suspecting either the stock tires are messed up, maybe the steelbelt has bent. Or alignment is off.

Alignment won't cause the wheels to shake. If you think the front tires are messed up, simply swap the front and rear and check to see if you are still getting the same result. If not, then you know either the front tires are bad or they are still not balanced right.

If after balancing you still get the sakes in the steering wheel..
the belt maybe bent/broken or out of true. If the tire is fairly new, it should still be under waranty. go back to the dealer/retailer where you got the tire.

Also some stock or low quality tires aren't perfectly round and will never feel smooth, but you are OK up to 80 which isn't bad.

I asked to swap the front and rear already, assuming the tech made sure that's no debris between the hub and wheel and assuming he balanced the tires right, there maybe something wrong with the tires. They are stock and have 2yrs/19k miles on them. Perhaps it's a good time to replace them. But I don't want to store them since they still have plenty of track.

Have them check the rotors. they may need to be turned and resurfaced or get new ones.

If it's the rotor, wouldn't my steering shake when brake is applied? That's not the case tough. It shakes only traveling at highway speed, not braking at highway speed. Thanks anyway.

I'm having the same problem and have taken it to the dealer .... they are always a little hesitant to replace tires but it seems as though I will be looking to purchase newer & BETTER tires in the near future!

I have the same problem and was told that my tires are "Out of Round" meaning they are not perfectly round. I was told this happens when are car sits on the lot to long without being moved and here in Florida the heat does not help. I'm putting off getting new tires because I plan to throw some 18's on there and the tires I have on there now are in excellent shape (shaking aside) but I know how frustrating this is

That may explain it. Because I don't drive this car to work. It sits in garage almost Monday thur Friday. I thought it's only bad for the wheel bearing, but tire will mess up too. That's something new to me.
