SS mode - how much faster?

I know this must have been discussed before but I can't find anything on it in these forums. Maybe I'm not searching for the right words.

Anyway, I have the TL-P 2002 model. It sure feels faster in SportShift mode -and it would make sense that it would be faster since the driver is controlling the shift points. BUT - has anyone really did any testing to see if it really is faster. I suppose you would have to test several categories like 0 to 60, 0 to 100, 50 to 80, etc. And how significant is the difference if it truly is faster in SS mode? Thanks.

By using the SS mode in our cars, you max out each gear by going to the max RPM's so therefore we get more torque and power per gear, which translate to more displacement, leading to more speed.

Im sure by driving SS you will be a little faster than using normal mode, but I would assume maybe an extra .2 seconds or so. Some people prefer the gateshifting method better, and claim that its better than SS mode.

BTW that was my 1000th post!!

SS mode wasnt really designed to optimize straight line speed, as it was designed the most for spirited country road driving, (having the ability to hold a gear through a corner).
for going straight Gate shifting seems to have the best benifits, especially the 1st to 2nd shift

I'd say stay away from gate shifting, as automatic trannys werent meant for it, and b/c ours are especially weak...yea

SS i dont think has any benefits over regular auto in straight line racing...In auto our cars rev to their perfect shift point (when being floored) which is just at the tip to redline...leaving the car in SS and shifting past redline would be overshifting and you'd actually loose seconds to the guy letting his auto perfect shift while being floored...

in the twisties however, well u all kno how fun it is to go SS

hmm.... interesting...
i never rev past 6500rpm on my tl-s yet but don't we have a rev limiter that prevents us from going into redline?
....
so when does our rpm cut off at???????
for those who hit the rev limiter.... wut rpm did it stop increasing at...
thanks
