It is very similar to this:

You don't need to take any panels off, just look under the dash near the steering wheel towards the fusebox.

Did you do any type of work recently that involved unplugging any wires with the seats or work anywhere on the car?
If not, you need to go to acura for the special extrended warranty 10 year 150k miles for the SRS system
the special warranty covers 5 of the 6 parts (approximate) in the system, the ones that fail, and per the service managers that frequent azine - its 99.9% chance its covered, just bring it in
The phone person quotes the standard diagnosis charge as they are supposed to- the dealer isnt there to give away mechanics time for free
You sign the estimate for diagnosis, car is inspected and their special code reader used
Its determined that warranty will cover all parts and labor plus diagnosis- you pay nothing-
they try to provide free loaner car if part must be ordered and take a day or 2 to arrive
Anyone with slow retracting seatbelt should ck for dirt and grime in mechanism- belt twisted etc- if all looks good then go to dealer for special warranty on it 10/150

I bought the car wit 163k....its a base tl 2002.....car came wit the light on....i now have 183k....so i will attempt to reset it....if light remains on then i must go to the dealer
#9
there is a reset procedure here on azine- ck DIY section or use search
If that does nothing or light comes on again- see dealer for warranty
does the car have a different radio or anything?
Looked under the seats for all plugs connected (there may be 1 wire left over on driver side- nothing to connect it too)
Im thinking of anything that will trip that warning

sometimes people remove the seat to fix its heat and unplug the wires without removing the battery NEG cable first- that fools the system and you have to reset
try an internet search using srs light reset+acurazine.com for a diy
that works better than azine search in many cases
NOTE:when the red SRS light is ON, you have NO AIRBAG,,system is shut down from problem
The yellow side airbag light means your package on passenger seat -I mean a bag of merchadise, not your package~
is fooling weight sensors, or your buddy is leaned back in seat or laying on the side glass
Either of those positions could cause possible broken neck so side bag is OFF when yellow light on

I hope it works for you. You say the SRS light was on when you bought the car. Do you know if it had been in an accident? My car had been in an accident and rebuilt when I bought it, and it had the SRS light on. The used car dealer assured me that the airbags had not deployed, and that the SRS light only needed to be reset. I did the DIY reset procedure, but the light would go off for a few seconds, then come right back on. I took it to the dealership, they ran the scan tool on it, and told me that the airbags had deployed, and that the SRS unit had to be replaced. Well, new SRS units are about $300-400, and it just doesn't make sense to me that the units are ruined by simply being in an accident. While searching for used units, I discovered that there are companies that can reset existing units to operate like new. You can ship your unit to them, they will reset it, and then ship it back to you, all for about $50. I haven't sent mine in yet, but will be doing so this week.
Does your car's title have 'salvage' or 'rebuilt' on it?

Probably will come back on. If so, then your only alternative is to take it to the dealer (or maybe another place that has SRS scan tool) and see what code it throws. You will likely have to replace some type of sensor, or possibly more.
So far I am having to replace both front seat belts on mine. The pretensioners went off in both seat belts during the wreck, and to fix it, you have to replace the entire seat belt assembly. The passenger side belt locked-up, but wasn't throwing a code. Turns out someone had hot-wired a resistor as a bypass so it wouldn't send a code to the SRS module. Nice. The driver's side was throwing a code, but was working fine. When I took it out to maybe see why it was throwing a code, it locked-up on me, too.
The dealership had some pity on me, and scanned it for free the first time. They sold me the passenger side seat belt at cost ($157), and only charged me $55 for an hour of labor to install it and do another scan of the system. I found a used driver side seat belt unit on eBay for $75, and they have guaranteed it was not affected by an air bag deployment. We shall see.
I'm contemplating going back to used car dealer where I bought the car, and threaten to turn them in for selling a car with a hot-wired seat belt. It's a federal offense. They should be given the "opportunity" to pay for the new seat belt

Oh i see....anything involving seatbelts are suppose to be replaced for free no matter what....but maybe in ur situation its different.....but that definately doesnt sound good....if it has anything to do wit my seats i can just go and get used seats from a junk yard.....hopefully you are able to resolve the situation without having to pay anything...

with clean title you wont need the junkyard- go see the dealer

hmm thanks i'll try that reset but my SRS doesn't go off and come on when i start the car.
also it was off and it just came on a few weeks ago for no reason and won't turn off.
lastly, won't acura dealer replace my seatbelt for free? i thought belts are lifetime warranty. mine is starting to tear on 1 side and it's pretty annoying.

His light is going off and coming back on when he tries the reset - not every time he starts his car. As mentioned earlier, restraint system components have a 10yr, 150K warranty, not lifetime. But if it is determined that any malfunction is due to an accident, it voids the affected components.

Could pay to have the code diagnosed at the dealer. $5 says dealer is gonna say replace SRS control unit. Approx $700 installed at dealer. (I'm currently saving up to buy and install my replacement locally - cost for SRS control unit is about $400 alone)
Good luck.....

really even for seat belts? that's strange because there was a post back then on 240 forums that someone got their 93 240 seatbelts changed for free since seatbelts are required by the law or something...i have a '00 TL, it's probably past 10 years now but i guess i'll go try it when i have spare time soon.

I just scanned the system and this is the reason the light is on
01-2 increased resistance in driver's airbag inflator
how the hell does that get fixed?

Seat belts are covered for life. BUT your problem isnt the seat belt. If you had the buckle problem that would be. You most likely have a SRS unit bad which you will have to pay for. Its best to get it changed/fixed as soon as possible. When that light is on NONE of your air bags work. Bring it to the dealer and have then diagnose it. You may get lucky and they will cover it. If not find the part in a local salvage yard and install it.

Well is there a way of correcting this without having to replace the unit?.....after doin the reset procedure if the light blinked once then came bak on then that would mean the unit is bad but that didnt happen so im not sure
#32
fix it by replacing the module, or simply put black tape over the warning light~
Be aware you have NO airbags in an accident

like it says- risk of accidental deployment of airbags is possible!!
Those things can really mess you up if you are not seated like it was designed
Anyone read the fine print details of the new recall on airbags???-
I thought it was about the deployment speed being too high
Would any of this test above (too small for me to read) relate to that?
Are you part of the new recall? take it to the dealer
everyone ck your vin against a list thats growing every week of affected Vins
Im just happy to have throttle controlled by actual cable wire~ at least we dont have that worry..only intended accelleration
Wonder if gen3 has the same computer for its fly by wire as toyota uses

Yea i guess its risky to mess with it on my own.....on another note after disconnecting my batt now the radio code wont work and its the correct code....i heard i have to unplug the antenna and then do it....pain in the ass just to get to the antenna......as for the airbags i called a cpl of months ago and there are no recalls on my car...maybe i should call again
