Do springs actually improve handling or is that just the impression that they give? Can anybody attest to this? I know this sounds like a dumb question. They do lower your center of gravity and reduce roll and dive which provides better weight distribution and traction in turns. However, they also alter the geometry of the suspension. Someone once told me that typically you want your car sprung as soft as possible with stiff dampers. Is that true? Easy on the new guy please.

nope, the aftermarket springs are some 30% stiffer than stock but yet progressive, so more the car leans, the stiffer it gets, so the minor bumps and irregularities in the road wont affect the smooth ride of the TL, yet provide firmer grip during turns...so NO you dont want really soft springs and stiff dampers, you want both to be stiffer than stock in order for a good solid ride...

I will attest that the springs/sways combination improves the handling greatly. The difference is like night and day.
Hope that helps.

Lower center of gravity = better handling. Why do you think SUV handle so terribly? The shorter springs lower the C of G, as well as being slightly stiffer for better handling, while not compromising comfort.
