i just want to put in my real quick...

i've used SS on and off, but after filling my car up last time, i decided to use SS more than auto to see what kind of mileage i get...i've only gone about 120 miles since filling up, but have noticed my MPG are a lil better after using SS for 3/4 of my driving...right now i'm getting between 24-26 MPG mostly city driving, some highway...usually in auto for the same type of driving, i get between 22-24, sometimes 25...i'm not surprised i'm getting slightly better mileage in SS mode, since you get to control the RPM's a little more...

just wanted to add this info since i hadn't seen it discussed in this thread yet...

hmmmmm... I already tried it and thank the good Lord, there was no cop in my rear view mirror that time. On another occasion, the undercover that was in the intrepid could not catch up so I could not see if he/she was smiling or not.

now... back to answering the questions, please.

fuel milage is drastically reduced when I use SS (maybe due to the fact that I am driving in an even more idiotic fashion when I use it)

SS mode is cool, but I think driving a stick is more fun. With that said, I'm off work in 30 mins and all this SS talk has got me in the mood for some spirited driving

I dunno about downshifting to 3rd at 100mph....your engine will not like that. Maybe 80-85mph at the absolute most. Hit the gas and you're gone.

i guess on the 2000-up with 5 speed it has that automatic shift to second thing. mine will stay in first as long as you want it to.

I am playing with the SS at times and its fun, but i still dont get it sometimes.

At times i will shift into 3rd, gas it and nothing will really happen, then kick into 4th and the car gets going. But in general 3rd feels the "Strongest"

What dont you get? by manually selecting the best possible gear to accelerate in is what your doing. If it wont go in you may be going 2 slow or to fast
