I would imagine the JL needs to be in an enclosure and not running in a "free air" enviroment. All of the w7's I see are in large ported boxes and need a lot of power. :bigun2:

Yeah from what I read, there aren't too many opean air subs that are made, and if they are, its not that great. I heard somone put a 10 inch sub if I'm not mistaken by modifiying the whole a little and hooked it up to an amp. I woudn't mind doing this, since I have the amp, and sub sitting athome doing nothing, I just wonder how difficult it would be and would it really imporve on the sound.

What size speakers do our door panels take? I really want that effect of nice box in the trunk w/o having to put a box, I guess its not possible or is it?

hey guys.. i have a 02 TL-S, and I desperately need to replace my inside speakers- ALL OF THEM!
Now from going to crutchfield.com, I know I have 6.5" front and back speakers.
Do any of you have like the perfect speaker can I can run an AMP to and the speaker handling it? I know with Honda/Acura the speakers is a funny area to tackle- cuz they only give you so much room to play with until the speaker magnet hitts the window...
Anyways someone please recommend what I should get, and if anyone knows the amount of DEPTH / mm i have to work with.... that would be great. THANKS people.

Some advice before you go swapping everything......Try hooking an aftermarket amp to the stock free-air 9" Bose speaker... many people say there is a ton of differeence in sound just by getting a new amp, the stock one sucks, and is about the size of a VHS tape (not powerful).. Another option is the Kicker 8" sub, many peole have used this speaker beacuse it is generaly good quality sub and it will fit without too much work...

We have a total of 5 speakers (6.5" in each of your doors + 9" sub in back)

This is slightly moving off topic but, for you guys who have upgraded your speakers, did you upgrade to a new head unit too? The reason I'm asking is because I've owned cars in the past with Bose equipment and Bose tends to be highly proprietary. Also I don't want to lose the steering wheel control. I just want to upgrade these mono sounding speakers to something clearer. I also want to follow the suggestion of Risidualfreedom, just upgrading the sub amp. Haven't looked at the amp yet but what is the difficulty level of that?

I am very interested in learning more about hooking up an aftermarket amp to the stock sub. I own a JL Audio 250/1 sub amp that I'd love to hook up to the sub if I could. Does anyone know how much power that sub can handle? Also, how would you go about hooking it up? Thanks to anyone who can answer these questions.
