Some thoughts when I washed my car yesterday.
I washed my car last night in the selfservice car wash. I had a few thoughts:
1. Medical alcohol is very useful to clean some dirt that car wash is not able to clean. After I washed and dried my car, I use alcohol I bought from Walmart to wipe off some black spots on the front bumper. To my suprise, alcohol was really good. From my observation, it will not damage the clear coat of the car.
2. Meguier (??) Gold liquid wax sucks. I applied the wax about 10 days ago. But yesterday after I dried the car, when I touched the car, I can not feel any wax on it, because the surface has big resistance.
3. Waxing a whole car is too time consuming. So I am going to wax one section of the car after each car wash.

wouldnt waxxing a section at a time negate everything, because by the time you finish, the fist and probably second sections would need waxing again. So you would be waisting more time every weekend waxxing a section after washing the car and this would go on forever, because the car will never fully have an even coat of wax on it.

YOU DO THE WHOLE CAR IN ONE SHOT! no piece meal crap!
get an easy on/off wax that's sweet like pinnacle! $ not cheap but worth it! i used to apply and remove that stuff in 40 min start to finish, like glass! if you don't want to go zaino!. yes , rubbing alcohol is an excellent solvent/tar remover, so is goof-off/ xylene for the harder stuff! wipe with wet cloth after and dry! kman

Re: YOU DO THE WHOLE CAR IN ONE SHOT! no piece meal crap!
Why do I have to do it "in one shot"? I thought if I do it piece by piece in one month cycle, it should be ok.
What wax do you use?
Thanks.

Just keep in mind, all the stuff KMAN recommends for removing bugs, tar..... also removes all the wax on your car. That includes polymers, like Zaino and Blackfire.

yes, use the solvents before you wax or
polymer! neil's right about the stuff stripping off the existing wax/poly. i use zaino , but used pinnacle brilliance before that! it goes on thin, and comes off fast, jut like glass! kman

WD-40 removes tar without the wax.
As for Meguiar's, use the Medallion for paint. It's more expensive, but is well worth it. It is also tough to find and you may have to order it directly from them. Go to their website.

as for waxing a car it is a pain in the ass if you do it by hand, i aswell got sick of doing it that way and got my self and orbital buffer and i used it for the first time today much easier and i guess you could say that it does a perfect job if used correctly just my opinion tho.

>>has anybody use the eagle spray on wax
i've never used it, but i wouldn't count on it, because the products that are 2in1 or 3in1 are just never what they say they are...
>>Meguier (??) Gold liquid wax sucks
really? i just bought it... damn, guess i'll find out myself

STi,
Let me know after you use the Meguier.
What I felt is that after you apply it, if you touch the car by hand you can feel it is smooth. which is good. But this did not last long, after 1 or 2 car washes you feel nothing on the car.

I have a 2003TL-S, anthracite metallic. I ordered Zaino Bros, Z-1, Z-2, Z-5, Z-6 and Z-7. First I washed the car with Dawn to get any residue off the car. Then used Z1, followed by Z-6, then Z-2. About a week later, I washed it with Z-7, followed by the Z-5. I have been detailing my own vehiclel since 1961. I believe this is the easiest and best product ever. It might cost a little more, but a little goes a long way. See some of the posts here or other Acura forums. But, I'd really say go with the Zaino. It was pretty easy to order it by mail. Sure, you don't have the convenience of going to the local Walmart, Costco, etc., and get it right then and there, but for me, it was sure worth the wait to get the stuff in the mail.
What I did get at Costco, was a California blade, which is a very pliable squeege that is great for getting most of the water off the car after you have given a final rinse. [Then use a 100% cotton towel, preferrably made in the USA, in white, laundered without harsh chemicals and dried without softener. Use a large bathtowel.] Costco also had a 3 pack of sheepskin washmits and they also have the California Duster. I have been using that duster to get off the dust between washes, which I do once a week. Just make sure that before using the duster to wrap it in newspaper for a couple of days in order to wick out the wax they have in it. Even you get a little of the wax on, its not hard to wipe off.
I have noticed that with the Zaino prep that I did, when I wash the car the water really beads up nicely, although I do use water that comes from my home water softener.
Try this set up and you cannot go wrong. Happy detailing.
