Some questions regarding tint (cost, type)

Wassup (what's up for those who get offended by bad grammar) everyone?

I have an ABP TLS and was going to get my windows tinted within the next few weeks. I was quoted $250 for a Silver platinum tint here in MA from a highly recommended shop (Tint King in Billerica). Sounds about right but wanted to know if you guys thought that was too high.

Also hoping some of you guys could post some pictures and details about what kind of tint you have. I did a search and found a few, such as Hyde's beautiful TLS among others, but was hoping to get a few more pics. I plan on getting 35% all around. Thanks in advance.

PS - I did a search and found some threads w/pics but not that many. Any addtional help would be much appreciated!

some advise, ask the tinter if he can tint over the dot-matrix stuff on the back and the brake light... it will look alot better

I have a 2002 TL-S SSM with 35% "Johnson" tint all around. I payed $220. The guy said that if there are any bubbles then he will replace it. About 3 months after he put the tint on I started getting bubbles on my right front window, he replaced it for free. Make sure you get some kind of warranty for the price you're paying. Make sure that when he does the rear window, do it in one piece; the dot matrix doesn't have any bubbles. If you have a spoiler then he can also cover the rear brake light (since the dealer turns it off when the dealer installs the spoiler) since you won't need it.

If you are planning to use radar from inside of your car then go with NON-Metallic tint (Metallic tint is used to make the tint reflect a little, hence when you see that mirror tints, its metallic). Mine has some metal in it and I still haven't tried my P8500 yet so I don't know if it will operate properly. Although you can get a radar that has sensors on the outside, you never know. I'll get some pics as soon as I have time to put it up on one of those free sites I'll link it here.

I got mine tinted at Eastern Sounds and Security near Taunton MA, I paid $250 with a lifetime warrenty on bubbles and all that stuff.

Make sure you want 35%. I wish I had gone darker. I did it at 35 because it was the legal limit. If i had to do it over again i woudl 20% all around.

This is for all you MA guys--as everyone here already seems to know, the limit for tint is 35%. However, our glass on our cars comes at about 75% from the factory (that green UV tint). If you get true 35% tint, your final VLT will be less than 35% (in the area of 25% or so), which means it is still illegal. The law doesn't care how you get below 35%, all it cares about is that you're below the limit. If a cop puts a tint meter on the window and it reads 25% on your 35% tint, you can explain all you want about the factory tint under the film but it may not save you from the $250 ticket. I'm not saying not to do it, just giving you a heads up if you do. I've been toying with the idea of tinting my windows on my TL-S and the local installer out here says they would put 50% on the car which would bring down the total VLT to about 40% or so. I agree that darker looks better, but I would hate for someone to get spanked for doing what they thought was legal, especially since we have to get our cars inspected every year and most shops are now checking tint as part of the inspection.
