So Much Power It's Doing Unintentional Burn Outs

got kind of a problem. friend of mine drives a 2000 maxima and he's posted in their forums but nissan guys are lame and no one has helped him.
heres what he said
"when i come to a complete stop with my car, sometimes the gas pedal will get stuck (not really stuck, but you'll have to press on it kinda hard so it'll go) and i was wondering what was wrong with it. i heard from a friend that you'd have to buy some sort of fluid and put it in but the only fluids i can think of are the transmission and steering fluids... which doesn't make sense at all."
i like cars, but i dont understand them as well as i would like to. if anyone can chime it, maybe it'll help us if our cars ever do the same

For starters this belongs in "Car Talk"

You need to be a little more descriptive. Do you mean that when he goes to accelerate the pedal is momentarily stuck there by needing more pressure to apply then all of a sudden it takes off

I'm not familiar with Nissan's accelerator setup but it sounds like he's got a problem with a bad accelerator cable. It might be getting stuck due to dirt or corrosion inside the sleeve for the cable. It could also be binding up at the throttle linkage for some reason. I hope this helps.

Repost in Car Talk (we can't move threads to there).

And agreed, it sounds like a sticky throttle cable.
