Yes, tonight on the way home I raced a 2002 Maxima SE. It occured on rt 280 from East Orange all the way to West Orange, NJ if anyone is familar in that area. The roads were wet, but I was still able to hang with this guy over 100mph. Pretty much we were speeding for 5 straight miles. I won't go into too much details, but I was able to speed past him when he got between two cars. I then exited and he followed me as well. We both were side by side at the light. We both pull down our windows and I said, "nice car" He asked, "Is that a TypeS??" I said, "yea" He told me he had over 780 miles on the car (no plates yet, just got it this week). He also mentioned that before he bought this car he was deciding on getting the TypeS also. He also said that my car was fast as hell. We then said our goodbyes when the light turn green and we went our separate ways. It was a good race and I am very happy with the power of our Acuras.

It's a given that you'll win, come on...

Type S vs TL-P?? not a good matchup...

Now If I had a Type S also..that would be a different story...

Creamed 2002 Maxima !!!
yea, I'd call that a win! He beat him off the exit!

TypeSDragon with your CAI, I think you are probably making a bit more power than the 260 that the Maxima SE and Type S makes stock. Do you have an Exhaust?

I raced a guy I work with who also had a new Maxima 2002 SE and he got me off the line and was ahead till around 35, but I passed him at that speed and pulled away from there. When the VTEC kicked in, he didn't have a chance.

Do either of you guys know if the 3.2 can be supercharged or turbocharged? Now that would be fun!

Re: Creamed 2002 Maxima !!!
Hey Silver-TLS, I have a CAI and comptech exhaust. I am not sure his was a stick or not, probably an auto. Before the exit, it was all uphill. I didn't even use my SS. As soon as the VTEC kicked in I was flying. But once I passed him he keep up with me from behind. I guess it is all about skills since we were racing on the highway instead of off the line at a light. Anyhow, it was fun since he was being a good sport about it at the end.

Yea it can be turbo and or supercharged.

THere is a Supercharger coming out soon from Comptech for the 3.2. It has been tested on a CL.

The engine will hold up to the turbo under low boost conditions

but the tranny I'm afraid may not last, so something may have to be done about that.

Tranny
yea, I've been reading about the tranny issues. My brother-in-law works for Honda. He's the factory rep in the NY/NJ area. I'm going to have to contact him on this tranny thing. Mine's been fine so far. I've got 20k miles on my 2002. Drive a lot.

Can't wait for the Comptech Supercharger! Someone will have to come up with a way to beef up the tranny! Maybe Comptech can do that as well!

Why are you running a 2002 SE with a TL-S? The better car to compare it to would be the TL-P. I would only compare a TL-S with an I35.

A race is a race regardless of class, even though a Corvette is a Chevy, they're still great cars.

faster car doesn't mean you will win, well most of the time thats only if your doing strait aways... if you are going to be going in and out of traffic it will all come down to skill.....

That's absolutely not true...I totally disagree with you on this one Medi, The 2002 TL-P can no way stay with the 2002 Max SE...It's not a fair race...225 hp vs. 255 hp and let's not even mention the torque difference.

The TL-S has to take on both...

A 2002 SE with manual tranny is a worthing advisary to the 2002 TL-S! I think stock for stock they would be about even. Although i think the SE would eventually win cause it has the 6th gear!!

The point is that the Maxima is basically the 'base model' of the I35. The TL-P is the 'base model' also. Why compare a base model with a car with an optional engine?

Because the "base model" of the IS35 has a 255HP engine with 240+ lb of torque! A very good opponent to the 260HP w/ 232 lb of torque on the TL-S. The comparison is on the engine, not the class!!

I disagree.

The maxima se has a better chance against the TL-S than the I35, especially if it's a stick.

Dont know what you are trying to start MedicSonic, but this debate is already over and done with. And your statement makes no sense.

By your same logic the Accord is the base model of the TL.

So the TL-P and Max are in the same class whereas the I35 and TL-S are in a different class?? I dont follow that logic. What about the I35 vs I35t??

The GXE isnt hard classifed in the entry-lux class, and neither is the SE while the TL-P/S and I are. Thats pure fact, nothing else. Much like comparing a TL-s vs a GS300. Different classes regardless of output and what options they may share.

Also you say dont compare a base model to a car with an optional engine???? What optional engine is found in the I vs the Max??? It's the same exact engine isnt it?? And that was the whole point of this thread, comparison of the engines, not the cars themselves in an actual encounter he had.

I agree it isn't the model or engine but the actual race. I unfortunatly have a TL and have tried on many occasions to take the new Maxima's but my car just doesn't have what it takes. I'd like to see an SE auto and TL-S get down to business in both handling and acceleration. I don't know, but I would guess the 6-speed SE would easily take a TL-S auto. Not a slam against an auto I would personally never purchase an entry-class luxo with a manual at the same time I would never purchase a Porsche with an automatic. Just my 2cents. By the way name calling only shows everyone else on this board your level of intellect.

From the story that you told, I would assume that you two were pretty close, so I wouldn't call that a "smoke" but call it what you want, a kill is a kill. Good Job! I have expected that the TL-S would walk on the Maxima from a highway roll, the 3.5 isn't a high RPM screamer which is why they run 14.6sec but at 93-94mph compared to 95-96mph for the TL-S.

But with the larger displacement and more torque the Max has even on the highway its still any mans race.

wut the hell is a TL-P?? i know wut a TL type S is but TLP? some one explain to me
and as far i what i've read about nissan the 6Speed maxima SE wont be available till later so i am guessin that its all autos out there and for comparing the maxima se and the tl s i think that its a fair match up personaly i think that a maxima will beat it with equal drivers. i ran my 99 maxima with a stock tl and i have to say i beat him on the highway..the maxima pulled more stronger when it got rolling...but when i ran the same TL at a dead stop for couple hundre feet..it had me by my 1/4 car length=) but this is just through my own experience so i am not speaking for all the cars out there.ne ways be safe and have fun speeding!

Medisonic you'd be surprise what a maxima is capable of, you'll se some supercharged one's hanging with vettes, stangs, supras, and other high performance sports cars and i think the tranny holds fairly well

"A win is a win, either it is a 1/4 mile or an inch!!" Hmm... where did I here this from? When you are racing in the highway with other cars, it is all down to the driver's skills and the risk they take in getting infront of your opponent.
Jan 7, 2002 | 02:19 PM

so if u and a kia was on it and he passed you while u were stuck behind cars i guess the kia won since he had the "skills" to be not behind cars and pass you!=)
this is what a i call highway race..both cars line up next to each other(while rolling) and punch it whenever there is enuff road ahead of them without other cars gettin in the way.=)

I will agree with this. But the statement someone made before isn't true at all. How can you compare 2 different cars with totally different HP? I would say this is as close as it comes for stock vs stock. Are you saying that if I raced him I can have the bragging rights of saying that I won? It's totally different, it doesn't matter then how I drive, all I have to do is step on it and I'm gone. The moral of my story is that this was a good race and you have to keep things equal as to HP vs weight (to really see who the better driver is) and in this case is was TypeSDragon

Not to be a bone head
But racing is dangerous enough, but racing on the highway (interstate) in the rain isn't the brightest thing to do.

Now if you want to race in the rain from a standing start, let me know.. I happen to be somewhat close to you...

Garden State Posters
TypeSDragon,

Yea, I've noticed that a good number of the posters in this thread and a lot of the other threads are from Jersey! We should get a big Jersey based meet going. I know there is supposedly one happening this Friday in Hackensack, but its at 4:00pm and I'm not sure I'm going to be able to make it that early. Plus I hear you guys go 4" of the white stuff up there!
