Question smoke from rotors/pads?

hey guys,
i've had my rotora rotors and axxis ultimate pads installed for about 700 miles now. did the full break-in period of over 500 miles of minimal braking. today i was driving about 50 mph and braked pretty hard (didn't slam on the brakes though). when i came to a stop, i saw smoke coming out of the front wheel wells. there was smoke for about 1-2 seconds from both front wells. i pulled over and smelled a slight burnt smell from the caliper/pad area. the rotors look okay. any ideas? i've stopped on the brakes pretty hard before. my friend said something about glazing? anyone know what this is? i don't notice any difference in braking. the brakes still stop really really well.
thanks,
peter.
ps. is anyone else getting that rust ring around the rotor cap? the area not contacting the pads but not covered with the black e-coating? it looks kinda ugly!

If you had new rotors installed they usually come with a factory coating that you are to remove with brake parts cleaner. I you omitted this step then the heat from the brake disks were burning off this coating.

i slightly wiped them down with brake parts cleaner after install, but just to get rid of grease from my hands. does it take a good thorough wiping to get rid of the coating?
thanks,
peter.

IF you read the preparation paper that came with the Rotora rotors, they said just clean with water and soap and not to use brake cleaner. IF you got grease on the rotor/pad, they are problably burnt of by now.

Yes it does take a good soaking to get rid of the coating.

As 04AcuraTL6speed has mentioned you have already burned off the coating. If you still have smoke from braking hard then you have other problems with your brakes.

The rust around where the pad does not contact is normal. Does anyone get a little slight sqeak from the Axxis Ultimates when the pads are cold?

I get this little tiny sqeeak when they are cold...but after, i think it disappers

Question Replace both Rotors and Pads?

Acura Canada has agreed to inspect my warped brakes (they turned the rotors already) to see if they will offer me a goodwill contribution to the repair. As the rotors have already been turned under warranty, I assume I should replace them.

My pads have a lot of life left, but I understand the O.E.M. pads are causing the warping of the rotors. Should I agree to pay for part of the cost to replace both?

NO, go get aftermarket pads and rotors...probably cost you a bit more.
