it makes no difference
signing a petition will make ZERO difference. honda cannot afford to replace transmissions forever. sooner or later it will catch up to them in lost sales, but in the short term they aint doing shi-t

The other problem is torque converter; according to them they received those in batches so not every single one is bad. They changed the specs in the mean time for converter and they are putting a new one in only those transmissions that have a failed one. That is why, according to them, some people have more then one trans replaced. But ultimately they have a fix. Now, of course the question remains how true is this?

Torque converter ..I thought the OTHER problem was 3rd gear clutch pack ..that is what was said before..
Well ................ even if what they told you is true ..........there are still many 03 late models failing.... not only Tl's ...but CL's ,check out the thread over at the Cl forum about the oil jet kit and se how many are failing even minutes after the recall upgrade.
Looks like all those little fix'es are still accounting to nothing.

Well, my transmission died about 600 miles after they put oil jet kit on it. Honda told me that there are two problems. One is second gear clutch pack (they claim that there is nothing wrong with the third) and the second problem is torque converter. In my case, it was torque converter according to them.
All in all, judging by people that I know, this web site and a few dealerships I spoke to, it looks like that every single one is bound to fail, the only question is after how many miles? This applies to 5 speed as well as 4 speed automatics. And I do not think Honda fixed the problem yet. But this is just me.

The tranny will never be fixed unless they replace all trannys with new ones. All these little updates are to just get us through 100k eventually. I hope my tranny fails and causes an accident. Class action lawsuit filed and slap HONDA with a number that would make their head spin. The only thing companies understand is $$

I think it gets lost after a few dozen posts, but it is important to remember there are TWO separate problems with the 2nd gen Acura transmissions:
1) Frequent failures by sudden downshifts, failure to upshift, jumping gears and slipping. This failure is the original reason for the 100K warranty and the replacement of failed transmissions with rebuilt units. To my knowledge there is not a 'new transmission' replacement for these units. Here is the NHTSA 'whitewash'. Only 35 complaints when 'closed'. Please complain at: http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/ivoq/
Make : ACURA; Model : 3.2TL;
NHTSA Action Number : PE02081
Date Investigation Opened: October 28, 2002
Date Investigation Closed: March 5, 2003

2) The recall. This is for the inspection of the gear and oil jet addition to cool the second gear gear. This has caused (at last report) only two failures and has no relation to problem number 1.

Signed... i think that they do have to work on their customer service. Even though i havn't had problems with my tranny yet or anything else major... I'd like to see Honda/Acura treat their customers they way they should... Especially Honda... They should at least have the knowledge to accept Acura cars there... Honda dealer by me always says they don't take in Acura's, thats why they have the Acura dealer 20 minute drive away in Seaside...

Give it a break
I myself work on acura's 6 days out of the week and do a hefty number of trannies in mdx's and tl's. MDX's are much less common and they have more of a problem with the torque converters shuttering than bad shifting. I know my dealer (Frankel Acura in Cockeysville, Md) will replace transmissions with no questions asked if they do have a problem and will also supply a nice rental car for you to drive while your car is at the dealer. Alot of people heard about the recall and bring their car in demanding a new transmission. There are also other factors in how the car shifts than the trans. The egr valves are common to sticking and hesitating the shifting. I can replace a tl tranny in under 3 hours and an mdx in around 4.5 hours which is much less than the warranty time pays but I still dont enjoy doing them because it is heavy work. Acura has been contacting dealers lately saying that we are replacing trannies that are problem free. Dealers know this is a common problem and should have no arguements as long as the tranny DOES have an actual problem.

Wow, this is my first time noticing this.
Tremor, do you know or rather believe (I'm sure you don't know) if Acura is even gonna be considerate and maybe make a FIX for this problem? Like maybe designing a better transmission, or would that be too much work and too much money for them to be waisting since they already came up with the oiljet fix?
It doesn't seem too helpful for Acura and for it's customers to be replacing trannies every few months on cars for free over and over and over.

What years does this involve? I have a 2000 TL w/ Navi and I bought it Certified with 45K miles on it in April. I take mine in next Friday for a squeak. Is this something I should mention as well about the tranny? What should I be looking for?

They installed the tranny cooler Dec 2nd at 108000 miles, tranny went out Feb 25 at 1
They installed the tranny cooler Dec 2nd 2004 at 108000 miles, tranny went out Feb 25 2005 at 114000 miles. It would rev high to 5000 rpm before shifting into third. They said it was not covered under the recall because the recall was for burnt gears and that my tranny problem was a clutch problem. Automatic? And it would cost me $6200 to fix. Acura wouldn't budge either because my car had excessive highway miles and all of my service wasn't done exclussively at Acura. ie. Oil changes. When I left the dealer it was 100 times worse. I barely survived the trip to a local Transmission repair shop. Hope it's not a mistake, but I don't have $6000 to spare.
