Angry Should we have to put up with rattles?

My TL is about one month old with 1300 miles on it. I like the ride, handling and power, but....................

The dash rattles drive me nuts. I have read numerous posts on this site about the noises. Of course I brought my TL in and the tech said he could not hear it. It's the same noise coming either from the large center vent or dash against glass just above it. I don't know about you guys, but the car sounds noisy when going over harsh bumps. Is this because the suspension is firmer than other Japanese cars?

I tested my friends' Camry and Maxima and their cars mute the sounds over the same harsh bumps (which makes me even more frustrated). Why can't Acura build a quiet car. The Maxima is especially quiet and muted over bumps. I'm wondering whether this is because the car (a 2001) was built in Japan?

It pains me each time I drive over those bumps.

After the dealer worked on the dash I think that the rattle is worse. I must say that it acts up more in really cold weather: 15 and below. It is not so bad when it is warm.

If this continues or worsens, I might have to jump ship and buy the new Max when it comes out or an Infinity product. It's too bad, because I really love this car otherwise.

I'm hoping against hope that the '04 TL will be a super quiet car.

One can dream!

almost everyone who owns a TL has some sort of rattle or squeak.....I say it's a small price to pay for such an amazing car. What else has everything the TL offers at the same price? And I think the TL is pretty quiet.

dian1511, just be persistant with Acura and they will eventually fix the squeaks. My 2000 TL had some other squeaks but after three trips to service they are almost all fixed (only one left is the ocassional rattle from the weather stripping on the driver's side door). fahoumh is right. Even with the hassles of having to make warranty visits there really is nothing on the market that comes close to the TL in value. Have you tried working with other dealers on the dash problem?

Not really. I have to say I do love the car. And, when the weather has been above the 30s as it has been here in Wisconsin lately, I hardly hear any noise except over harsh bumps. Otherwise the car feels solid and I love the engine. If the sounds aren't too bad, I'll live with them and make mention of them when I go in for the 7500.

2001?

the 2001 Maxima up till 2002 have been built in Japan. The 2004 Max will be built in the US when they make their model change.

Matters compress in low temp. and contrast in high temp. The materials contrasts and fillls up all the loose spaces in the dashboard as temperature rises. Therefore, you don't hear noises, rattles, etc. The reason you are hearing more rattles during the cold weather is because the materials inside the dashboard compress and leaving more loose spaces between screws, walls, etc. Seems like you just need to get your dealer to tighten the screws and put pieces of felt in between the metal parts that holds the dashboard in place. I've had rattles in the driver seat before, and the dealer put felts in between the little springs under the seat. Now, the rattles are gone for good.

dian1511, this will make you feel better. I just read a review on the new Lexus ES300 and here is a quote:

"Sound absorption technology couldn't mask some irritating rattles emanating from the rear doors or seatbelts on our test car. How very un-Lexus. But that is what a warranty is for..."

Thanks Eskimo. I do believe that the TL is a car with more guts than the ES300.
